It just arrived today and I couldn't be happier. It's a King Standard with Valentino's influence. Nice balance and, most importantly, it's going to be a 'head-turner'. A special thanks to Valentino for his help in making this a reality.

Pix are from BassCentral (they handled the custom order for me) - they take better pix than I could ever hope to.

Congrats!
Is that a Mahogany body? The grain looks really nice.

Congratulations!! Looks really nice. The front is very pretty and I agree with Dave about the back.

I've been really impressed with BassCentral. Was your experience with them good? Beaver seems to know volumes more about Alembics than the other dealers I spoke with (not an exhaustive list and specifically excepting Washington Music).

Play it in good health. You must really be charged!!

I am glad to hear that you are so happy with the bass Kevin, thank you for the kind words. It was fun helping you decide and a a lot of fun seeing it being built; of course I followed the development pretty closely.
I'd have to say that my influence on this design was limited; all I did, back in early 2001, was inquire if it would be possible to have a triple omega version of then-fairly-new balance point shape. Mica said it was, took the template of the balance point, drew it on paper and then proceeded to insert sample omegas. She quickly realized that the side omegas would have to be smaller, because of the shape of the body, and also that they would have to be asymmetrical; I was ok with that, so we briefly experimented with a couple of different spots and settled on the ones that you see now. Next was the pistol grip which Mica easily incorporated into the design. I was up at the shop and it took maybe 1/2 hour at the most to do it and finalize it.

Dave, yes, that is a really nice piece of mahogany.

While a top mounted jack is standard in signature basses, Kevin asked to have his jack sidemounted.

Nice as the pictures are, I think they don't remotely do it justice.

Congratulations Kevin, have loads of fun with it.

Kevin,
Congratulations!! Your design is so similar, yet so different, when compared to my 'JPJ' edition (also from BassCentral)http://alembic.com/club/messages/411/6975.html?1070974642
It's so interesting to see how slight design changes make such a different visual effect in the final product. And that Heart Omega is sooooo cool...very classy.
Just curious, what does she weigh? I tip the scales at 11.5 lbs, which is perfect for me, but you seem to have a slightly larger body on your masterpiece.
And Val, you're right, the pics from Beaver, as nice as they are, do not do justice to an Alembic, especially one as nice as this.
Best of luck...treat her lovingly...
Chris.

Nice bass! It's very interesting seeing the difference between that and the original triple O. And that mahogany does look great (mind you, so does the quilt top!)

Wow ...a very "elfish" bass ...kinda "dreamy" instrument ...with some magic in it.
Very nice!
Don't forget to eat and sleep from time to time!

Thanks everyone for the great comments and feedback. Now that I had it for a week or so, I can say that the weight, balance, and feel are great. Even better than I had expected. Again, I've got to hand everything to Valentino - it's his concept and it works well.

I'm not sure on the weight but it seems just a bit heavier than my Europa was if that helps.
