Here is what it looks like to get a brand new Alembic shipped directly from the factory! I bought this SC Signature Deluxe from Beaver at Bass Central & it just so happened that he had this one on order & it had just been completed the day I called to talk to him about buying an Alembic. So he offered to ship this one directly from the factory to me if I bought it. Talk about perfect timing! I was trying to decide between a Brown & Signature, so he had Mica hold it until I made up my mind. Mica sent Beaver pictures of this bass which he sent to me, & I fell in love!! I couldn't pass up the chance to get a new Alembic directly from the factory, it never hung in a store having dreamers drool all over it, so I called Beaver & told him I'll take it! I paid for 2nd day air & Mary saw to it that the bass was delivered on time & securely packed! It arrived in perfect condition, the box wasn't even scratched up! I have to say that pictures don't begin to do this bass justice, it is hands down the most beautiful bass I have ever seen! It's like it was custom made just for me, with all the wood combinations I would have picked if I had commissioned the build myself. When I opened the case all I could say was "My God....My God!!!!" I was speechless! So here are the pictures from the box to my hands....Bass -in-the-box

That bass is great no mistaking that and cocobolo will always try to trick you in to working out what colour it actually is. You also seem to have lovely weather as well this week. Blue skies here in England seem to be just a distant memory these days.
SC Signatures are just yummy. it will be interesting how you feel changing between scale length basses during a practice session or gig.

Hey Jazzyvee,

You are right, the cocobolo looks different in different lighting. It is beautiful in any light though! I have a gig tonight playing Mardi Gras in Galveston, so that will be my 1st test switching between basses & the different scales. I am still getting used to the short scale on the Alembic, but I love it! It's so much easier to play! It's not really an issue down low, but when I get above the 12th fret I find myself hitting a fret too high on some notes. The LED markers really help with that though! Sounds like you need to come visit Texas for the winter, as you can see by my pictures, it was sunny & 75 today!

Congrats on the Bass, just had my own "out of box" experience, it is an amazing feeling when you first open the case.

I thought about recording the moment on video for YouTube then decided I didnt have the patience!!!

... Great Pics, you missed out the part where the plastic cheesy puffs fall all over the carpet though.

The "Airing it out" picture (post #14) is fabulous.

First I looked at Luke's awesome Burl with the wicked cutout and now this beauty,,,,, I feel like I should get a new one too!
I think people around here call it GASS or something like that, I'm not sure what it stands for but it really feels like I have it!!

Hey Luke, I DID video the whole out of box experience! I haven't had a chance to watch it yet or put it on a DVD because I've been too busy playing my new bass! I will try to post it on You Tube & put a link on here.

Pauldo, glad you like the sky shot! I set it up on my speaker box case & layed on the ground to get that angle!

Thanks Bigyouth! Billostech, I used a Canon Powershot SX130 IS on the auto setting. The red carpet pictures are from Mica at the factory. I was trying to decide between the Brown & Signature bass so she sent them to Beaver at Bass Central to entice me to buy this Signature, & it worked!

Thanks Charles,I was wondering when someone would notice the shirt! I had to wear that one in honor of the unboxing! My 1979 Stanley Clarke T Shirt doesn't fit me anymore for some reason! Post your RTF picture!

Thanks Bill! I finally made it to Austin to play the Brown & it played well, but I am definitely happy that I got the Signature! I love my bass!! I also played a MK long scale there, & realized that I am spoiled with the short scale now! I would love to try a medium scale to see how that feels, but I am sold on the short scale! If anyone is ever in Austin, TX, I highly recommend stopping by Guitar Resurrection! They have a great selection of Alembics & other high end basses, & Jim, the owner, is super nice & accommadating!

Hey Rusty I'll get that photo up! Let's see, 1979 I was 23 and I met Stanley at the Tower Theater in Philly, he made me look short and I'm 6'3". I didn't get a tee shirt though but I bet I wouldn't be able to fit mine for the same unknown delima that has you perplexed!! But I'm diggin' your current Alembic Tee! My Favorite color too!
Please,
Call me Chalie!!!

Love this thread - the documentation of both your getting the bass and trying out others is fun. I'm a fellow SC Sig owner, congrats!

Hey Chalie! Come September 15, I'll be sporting a new RTF shirt after their show in Houston! Already got my tickets! Glad you like my Alembic shirt, it's custom made just like the basses! The factory was sold out of my size, & all Cafe Press offers is a white shirt & I wanted a colored one (This is my favorite color too! I have 2 Harleys & a Tacoma this color!), so I scanned the logo off a set of strings & sent it to Cafe Press & had them make the shirt! They did a great job!

Thanks Harry! Yeah, I kinda did the process backwards, first buying my SCSD, THEN trying out others, but it worked out! I told my wife on the way to Guitar Ressurection that I didn't know if this was such a good idea, playing other Alembics after getting mine, what if I liked them better than mine? As it turned out, it confirmed that I did make the right choice in getting the Signature over the Brown. I love the range of tone I get with the Signature, The Brown sounded good too, but it was more of a "woody" sound & my Signature is almost piano sounding! I couldn't be happier with my bass!
