This could fall under the "Old basses being sold for silly money" catagory. A guy at work is thinking about selling his 74 jazz bass - untouched from stock condition (not un-played) frets are certainly worn down, neck has been removed several times, who knows what else. He is thinking of asking for over $2,000!!!!. I have not touched or seen the bass in person yet - I really am interested but the number that pops into my head (without ANY research) is $750. Am I nuts or is he? |

He probably isnt that far off...I just sold a 72 JB with lots of road rash and some other issues for $1500.00. If I had been patient I probably could have gotten closer or over $2000.00 for it. |

To be fair $750 is quite unreasonable - $2000 isnt far off the mark! |

The Blue Book value on a '74 Jazz Bass ranges fron $875 (60% condition), to $2150 (95% condition), to $2700 (98% condition). You can then add 10-50% more for black, blonde, or certain unusual colors. Bill, tgo |
