I have close family in Carthage, and Carterville, and many of the communities immediately surrounding Joplin. It is truly an eerie feeling to see photographs on the news of locations that I knew well, but which are now destroyed. These places that are familiar, yet horribly distorted. I can only be thankful that no one in my family was harmed, given that many of my relatives (some very close, some distant) are spread within and throughout this area. My thoughts are certainly with those who have lost so much so quickly. |

I used to fuel my tractor trailer there on my trips from Philly to L.A. One day I got chased down Interstate 44 between Joplin and into Oklahoma by a tornado and had to out run it. Luckily in all the trips I made back and forth across the country that only happened once. But when I saw the news I couldn't believe what happened to that place. It didn't look anything like it did as I remembered. I wonder if that Petro truck stop is even still there after that. I wish all the people affected by this alll the best in recovering from such devastation and loss. Will |

I know how they feel, it's heart breaking, in 1999 I lived through the F-5 tornado that hit Moore Okla. that tornado missed my house by 4 blocks, then in 2003 I got hit by a F-3. I use to not be afraid of tornado's, but now they make me a basket case every time they blow the sirens,. picture don't even come close I can still smell that smell of total destruction. my thought's and prayers go out to all affected by the tornado's Sir David T |
