I ran across this article this morning, and thought some of you might find it of interest. Someone who was there 58 years ago is asked his recollections of the event. It's a short article, not very in depth, but an interesting look back from one person's memory of a famous concert. An excerpt:

I remember Mingus looking at him like ‘Let’s get on with the music. What’s this all about?’ Mingus didn’t have much patience with that kind of stuff and Dizzy was always a clown. But I mean he was a pretty reliable guy but that night it was chaos. It was really chaos.”

The recording of this concert became Jazz at Massey Hall. The lineup; Charlie Parker on alto sax, Dizzy Gillespie on trumpet, Charles Mingus on bass, Bud Powell on piano and Max Roach on drums.

Art; I figured you might like it given the material you're doing in your jazz project. Here's a cut from the album. Blistering playing on a Gillespie standard.

It's an outstanding lineup. All giants of jazz.

Very cool... going to listen to a bunch of the tracks I see on youtube from the concert. Thanks for the links Dave.
