Over the years, I have developed a hypothesis that you can tell most of what you need to know about another person by who they side with in famous fractured musical partnerships; I, for example, take Lennon over McCartney, Kaukonen over Kantner, Young over Stills, and Tosh over Marley. Now you know me. What are your thoughts? Peter |

I will always stand by Vanilli against any naysaying by the Milli camp. Now YOU know ME! Seriously, I wish John Lennon was still with us. I think he would be an even more interesting character if he had the opportunity to shape the last three decades (oh. my, I'm old!!). |

McCartney over Lennon. Both brilliant minds, but Lennon required a foil to tease out his best work, imho. Young over Stills, for some of the same reasons I think. John |

George Harrison over both Lennon and McCartney. All Things Must Past still stands as the best post Beatles album, in my somewhat humble opinion. On the other hand we have the Wings catalog, or some of those awful John/Yoko collaborations for comparison. |

Some others: Tina over Ike (mostly based on the SNL skit where "Ike" keeps abusing and then apologizing to Kevin Nealon - "I love you Kevin Nealon!"). Mary Anne over Ginger Betty over Wilma 1st Darren over 2nd Darren Lennon over McCartney DEFINITELY Emma Peel over Tara King Levon Helm over Robbie Robertson Dean Martin over Jerry Lewis Chong over Cheech Sean Connery over all the others and, of course, the most important and universally accepted preference: Curly over Shemp! lol Bill, tgo |

It's interesting when. you can hear who's song it is, even though for a long time these pairings sort of globally cover each other, until the inevitable split comes along. The White Album is full of songs that obviously were only-Lennon or only-McCartney, even though they were all credited to them both. Somehow I just don't imagine John getting serious about the bridge in 'Rocky Raccoon', nor Paul chiming in a high harmony part in 'Everybody's Got Something to Hide', you get the idea. Lots of Eagles where it's obviously mostly Henley or mostly Frey. Their solo records are almost as 180 degrees apart as 'Ram' and 'Working Class Hero'. Listen to any band long enough, and as time passes and the revolving door begins you see this. There's certainly Floyd with Roger Waters and without, or even without Sid Barrett. And on and on . . . . and of course, the records they made before they quit (drinking, smoking, shooting, snorting, and so on) and after rehab ! The only one that's truly important? Lettuce and Tomato over Bacon ! Preferably on some really nice homemade bread. And certainly Mayo over Miracle Whip. And Oh Yes, DEFINITELY Emma Peel over Tara King. J o e y |

LOL. I recall years ago reading something - the introduction to a book perhaps - by Stephen King in which he claimed you could understand the mind every straight guy in the country by way of his answers to Mary Ann or Ginger? Betty or Veronica? (IIRC) Bailey or Jennifer? Mary Ann, Veronica and Bailey here. And _definitely_ Emma Peel. She made a powerful impression on my preteen mind and she could actually drive a Lotus Elan smoothly... |

Paul: Bailey or Jennifer? You lost me on that one. Sam: Tara King (played by Linda Thorson) was the character that replaced Mrs. Peel (Diana Rigg) on The Avengers (the series that included the best cars in the history of TV, IMHO). Bill, tgo |

WKRP in Cincinnati. Late 1970s sitcom. Loni Anderson played Jennifer. Can't recall the actress who played Bailey. Sort of a latter day version of "Ginger or Mary Ann" - glamorous bombshell vs. cute girl-next-door type. |

Jan Smithers played Bailey Quarters. Cute? IMO, way hotter than Loni! Peter |

Oh yea, then it's definitely Bailey over Jennifer. Basically flesh over plastic. (I wonder if she is related to C. Montgomery Burns' assistant? nyuk, nyuk) And I've always been a sucker for glasses! Bill, tgo |

Wonder Woman vs Zina (WOW - what a choice - I pick BOTH!) Mary Anne vs Ginger (Mary Anne until I saw Gilligan's Island in HD) Betty or Veronica (cartoon - Betty, the SD movies - Veronica 'fer sure) Wilma vs Betty (neither - LOL) Gibson vs Fender (depends on the model - I would like a Les Paul though) Tubes vs Transistors (they both work and get the job done) Truck vs Car (I have both) Bill Bruford vs Allan White (Yes Drummers) - Bruford rules Fish vs Hogarth (Marillion) - the band died when Fish left David Lee Roth vs Sammy Haggar - you're kidding - DLR Front Wheel Drive vs Rear Wheel Drive - each has it's benefits As far as the Beatles guys go - I did not care too much for any of their solo stuff - Paul was much easier to digest than the others stuff (big time yuk for Yoko) Steve |
