oteil burbridge (not the best video)

I'm not really a fan of victor wooten, and this is more of a lesson than a solo, but it's really cool:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ZyQE8LNKAk

this one isn't the best solo, but there isn't a lot of video of these guys. this is by far my favorite band, and one of my favorite bass players. song starts at about 2:50 and the solo is towards the end.

seriously. listen to more happy apple. they're amazing.

Happy Apple reminded me of my alt-jazz fan days, and soon I thought of the afterparty we had after a great Doctor Nerve concert - cut my fingers, blood all over the baby grand's keyboard. (Yep, Mica will be wondering how she came to invite an unassuming weirdo to be Club moderator.)

Jesse Krakow is their bass player, quietly doubling some pretty mean guitar riffing - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=189Z9KkOQcY

I thought that all fans had an Alembic sound in head when I realsed this thread !! ... So I made a big mistake! Anyway, This shows the musical richness that we have in ourselves.
I'm following my way and, the actually solo wich take my soul is:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9xm5nZnkNCE
I'm working on, it's relatively easy, just place the nice musical touch (note ?) and the background give a great support. I'm listening to this, I'm just flying..........

The Baaadest bass player in the country, Willie Weeks y'all! (not a video)
Long jam - if you don't have the patience tune in at 8:25 - that is when Willie will take you to school on how to craft a bass solo that will wiggle a rump and make yo heels thump!!!

OK, not (alas) video, and no actual bass solo, but a prime example of supple, constantly changing bass as a driving force in the music - Fillmore East 2-11-70, 2nd set. Be aware, though, you can disregard the times listed; "Dark Star" lists at 2:10 & runs ~19:00, for example (and you really should listen to the "DS>Spanish Jam>Turn On Your Lovelight" medley as a whole :-)).
Enjoy!

Peter
PS - no, that's not just the Dead; over the course of the jam Arther Lee joins on percussion, Peter Green on guitar, Hart goes to precussion & Butch Trucks takes over his kit, Duane Allman on guitar, Gregg on keys, & Berry Oakley joins on bass, then Phil leaves.

Great link Bradley. I had the pleasure of hanging out with Trip at the first UK bass day and he's a great player (and a really nice guy). There aren't too many bassists who can play an amazing solo and sing over it!

Peter Trewavas with Transalantic (from the band Marillion) This song, Evermore, has one of the coolest grooves around - definitely my favorite new discovery.

Transatlantic is:
Neal Morse - lead vocals, keyboard, guitar
Mike Portnoy - drums, backing vocals
Roine Stolt - guitar, backing vocals
Pete Trewavas - bass guitar, backing vocals
Daniel Gildenlöw - guitar, backing vocals, keyboards

Enjoy (and keep this thread going)
