Hi Jacko, What are those Kelly Dragonfly basses like? I saw one in a local music shop in brum this afternoon but didn't get a chance to try it out.

I've got one and while it's far from perfect, it's not a bad instrument at all after a little (or a lot) of attention to the nut. Works great for swing or acoustic jazz with a small amp (it's not a loud instrument). I don't mind the buzzes that come from the inlay. Just adds character imho..

Thanks for replies. Just to add, both of mine are rechargeable amps (the smallest made by Liberty and the next one that I use regularly by Harley Benton, a copy by Thomann of Crate Taxi but not now made) - any comments on rechargeable amps that work for gentle bass gigs? Glynn

Jazzy. I love mine. it probably gets more playing time than the rest of my collection put together as I can just pick it up and start playing - no need to set up an amp to be heard(this has marital benefits). i tried out all the usual suspects in my local stores - Godin, fender, ibanez etc but couldn't find one that i liked. None of them had a great B string when amplified and finding a fretless five string was proving to be a problem so after getting some recommendations on this forum I ended up buying the kelly online and had it shipped over from the US with a decent quality gigbag for around $500 quite a few years ago. i bought it on ebay (us) from grand central music and i guess I struck lucky as it was set up perfectly for my style. Only a couple of minor gripes - the B string doesn't amplify well - possibly a standard fault across all acoustic bass guitars? and the inlays were loose in places - an easy fix with some superglue. I'm not too bothered about the amplification issue as I bought it to be my practice bass in the house and Mrs j prefers it quiet :-)
