At a New Orleans style jazz gig this afternoon a lady asked for a tribute to Whitney Houston. Not this type of band's stuff but the best we could do was to play the spiritual "The Old Rugged Cross" and OK. We did our bit.

I heard a Dolly Parton interview once; she said:

"I wrote a song called 'I Will Always Love You', and I opened my first bank account. Then Whitney Houston recorded it, God bless her soul, and I bought the bank."

I always prefered Dolly's version, but that is not meant to take anything away from Whitney. Bummer.

What a damn shame. But not unexpected, and that's an even bigger shame.

I'll refrain from the drugs/alcohol rant, human frailties being what they are, but will a time ever come when SOMEBODY starts to 'get it' that you just can NOT play with fire and not get burned, or worse?

This is exactly why I've completely given up ever playing out ever again, I've just lost any sense of tolerance for this sort of thing, I have no patience left for drunks, or worse.

God Rest Whitney Houston.
