Tomorrow night at the historic Pabst Theater in Milwaukee. Not sure if it is just Jorma and Jack or the "electric Tuna" - doesn't matter - it will be a treat as it was last time they came through - although hopefully people will put their cell phones away this time! :-( |

Being from Colorado we have a pretty good music scene but for the most part the venue turns into a prison after you cross the threshhold, plus you have to pay big $$$ for anything, h20 included. Ive been to Milwaukee 2 times for concerts at the Riverside theatre and all i can say is "AWESOME"!!!! What a great town. The people are super super friendly. Venue staff are great, plus we could come and go as we pleased. They realize there is enough money to be made for everyone. You can leave the show and go to the bar next door for a drink or food and return at your leisure. What a concept. I will always go to Wisco. Hot Tuna...Hot damm that sounds fun. Sorry for the Hijack/Rant...Bear....P.s. What is up with crowd chatter these days??? If you wanna talk all loud why come to see music?? |

Just saw Jorma, Jack, and Barry Mitterwald with my son at the Cedar Cultural Center in Mpls. last night. Incredible! Had tickets to the 5:00 PM show which was fantastic, especially the tasteful work of Barry on assorted mandolins and a tenor guitar. Jorma was his old, irascible self, Barry displayed the most deadpan sense of humor, and Jack...well Jack made faces in addition to contributing some incredible bass licks. When they announced near the end of the continuous 2-hours of acoustic blues and bluegrass that they would be playing entirely different material for the 9 PM show, we purchased tickets on our way out, grabbed a bite to eat, and then were treated to another 2-plus hours of great music. The Cedar is small, non-profit venue (we are talking a couple hundred of seats here since its an old movie theater) with great acoustics. We were not frisked at the door, no one asked to inspect our backpack, and refreshments were very reasonably priced. A few attendees even appeared to bring their own bottles of wine. Tickets to each show cost $30 and we were seated about 10 rows back dead center (there were probably only 15-20 rows of seats). Music the way it's supposed to be. |

I saw them in a little place called Freebird in Jax. Beach. Very small intimate venue not a bad seat or stand in the place. Watching Jack play was quite a treat. Not to downplay Jorma ofcourse just that I play the fat strings |

I think it's great that they've been delivering consistently great music for the last couple of decades. I remember finally convincing my brother to go see them in the mid 80s and Jorma was too drunk to bring it like I knew he could (I had seem him solo about 18 months before at UMass Amherst in 1982, with a Marshall stack and a HUGE PA just for the acoustic. It was one of the most stunning nights of music I have ever seen in a year of stunning music that included MIles Davis, King Crimson, Dizzy and Max, etc). Jack held it together for both of them, but my brother teased me for years about dragging him to go see those wasted hippie musicians. One of these days I've got to take him again! |

Brian - It is very cool that you took your son. Last night Jorma mentioned that the Cedar Cultural Center has some history behind it,,, something about an 8-track in a Montgomery Ward console stereo in the backstage area! As you mentioned it truly was 'music the way it's supposed to be.' Edwin- it is time to get your brother out to see them because they are in top-notch form, absolutley beautiful interplay between all three of them. I brought a guitarist friend of mine and at several points during the show I caught him laughing out loud. At the end of the night I told him that I was glad he came, he said "that was great, the phrasing, the dynamics etc etc" I told him: I heard you laughing I know that you "got it"! He wasn't laughing at them he was laughing at the incredible 'magical' moments that would fire off during the performance - although he did point out how Jack's eye brows would start twitching right before he would tear up some brilliant bass part! I am extremly grateful that this time through Milwaukee the crowd was there to hear a show and NOT text and talk through it or hold there smartphone up to capture video footage. This was a show to kick back, get carried away and sucked into the vortex of three brilliant performers. |

I can't wait for them to get out to Colorado again, but it's not gonna be until July. I once remarked to Jack about how their interplay seemed telepathic. He corrected me, somewhat sternly, that it was NOT telepathy, but lots of practice! Alrighty then. I love those guys! |
