I highly rate this piece . I have one in my collection as items to keep. It is VERY rare ! I love Alembic preamps (F-2B ,F-1X, SF-2 )best as stand alone bass preamps but this one in particular is next in line in my collection of useful tools of the like . It is very good for recording in my opinion and connect-ability is superb. This unit is for UK voltage ! There's a long 'original Trace' / Ashdown / Trace as owned by Gibson / Trace as a division of Peavey story I would really like to hear accurately one day. A quick story: After Ashdown and TE being acquired by Gibson, some of you may remember those ads for Trace with Tony Levin endorsing that monster Trace BMF cabinet. Gibson sent Tony out on a Clinic Tour, and he came to Nashville to the local Sam Ash branch. I certainly went (he pulled out the Stick and played that crazy intro from that Crimson tune !). While I was there, there were several Gibson/Trace guys there, and I asked one of them, 'Well, how long till Henry kills this just like he did Tobias, Steinberger, and Oberheim?' After the color returned to his face, I got the company line about how they were building the brand, etc. I never saw one piece of Trace at Sam Ash afterwards, who explained it was back-ordered indefinitely . . . . Terryc , I see a TE BLX 80 for sale once in a while here on this side of the pond. http://www.guitarcenter.com/In-Store-Used-USED-TRACE-ELLIOT-BLX80-107388313-i2388516.gc However The TE GP12XV (V not U , eBay listing mistake) is rare over here in the US . It has a 12AX7 tube in a highbrid circuit design . I really like it second best to my Alembic rack pre-amps. For a non rack system stand alone integral Bass head I like the older GK's like the 800RB & 400RB . http://www.bazaar-world.com/guitar-amp-11449-Trace-Elliot-GP12XV I have not played through your TE BLX 80's but Have heard great stories about them . It might be one of those items that are keepers . I tried to purchase one recently on Craigslist but it was sold before I was able to even get a response from the seller about checking it out. |

Here is more info on the TE 12XV http://www.richard-farris.com/wordpress/bass-guitar/trace-elliot-gp12xv-silverface-90s-bass-preamp/ I did not do any of the mods that this fellow describes. I just left mine stock and it works well for me as is . It has lots of ways to connect and route your signal chain , very smartly designed. |
