This past weekend I finally got to meet a fellow club member in person. Saturday I got to spend an hour with Jim Nance (Lothartu). He's a really nice guy, very helpful, and has a nice light touch on the bass! And he's got a neat little rig for playing bass in his car!! | ||

That's pretty cool Dave. How did that come about? Jim, how about some pictures of that rig, does it plug into the cigarette lighter? I'm still holding my breathe for the official club gathering either West Coast or Europe. Any excuse to go to San Francisco or the EU is a good one. Sam | ||

We met in a city about halfway between us. That's where the cigarette lighter rig came in handy. It was a nice day to be outside playing bass and talking about Alembics. | ||

Gents, Sounds like a good time was had by all. BTW, any Alembic owners in the Fayetteville, NC area? I know of one other at my local music store (an Orion owner - and the only other person who's ever laid a hand on my Spyder and Europa). For what would we bang with empty bottles on tables if there are no Alembics huh? Paul the Bad One: Yes, and I mean real BBQ, the low and slow kind. I have a 600 lb custom built BBQ cooker in my backyard. And I'm all about food and drinks! An Alembic will be required for admission, however. Or at least the desire to own one! BTW, I just got back from Korea (my second trip in four months) last Sunday. I went to look a the Series I I saw the last time in the Nak Won music market, but this time, the shop owner wouldn't even let me tighten the strings on it. It's funny - these guys, if it's an expensive instrument, they won't let you play it. I tried to get another guy to let me try a Fodera, but all I could get out of him was "no, no." Guess he figures that as a GI, I can't afford it. Odd thing is the same owner had the same Foderas in his store gathering dust (I saw the same thing with Pedullas in another store) as he did the last time I was there. Needless to say, I walked out. I think next time I'm going to go back with pictures of my collection (up to ten instruments now, to include two Alembics worth over $10K), and see if that does any good. I'm also going to take an interpreter to make sure they understand I have the scratch to buy anything in their store, and that if they want to sell an instrument, they'd damn well better let me play them. Dave: Maybe sometime we can hook up. Asheville is about 5-6 hours from here on I40. Winston Salem would probably be about half way for us both. Regards, Alan | ||

Alan: Good to see you're back from the not-so-friendly far east and in one piece. If I wasn't so far (Joisey), I'd take you up on that barbeque offer. I imagine Superbass Steve would jump at the chance as well, but he's in the same (long) boat I'm in, LOL! That would be a Superbasss reunion of sorts, LOL! | ||

Keavin, Cool. I've been to Fort Monmouth, and also to Egg Harbor. I have a good friend who lives in Egg Harbor, and every time we get together, we cook. Last time was BBQ (she is a certified Kansas City Barbeque Society Judge), and she told me my ribs were of blue ribbon quality. High praise indeed. Best corn I ever tasted came from Jersey. Man, was it good - sweet, succulent. Makes me hungry just thinking about it! No wonder it's called the Garden State. Finally, one of my college roommates (now a Special Forces Lieutenant Colonel serving in Korea) is from Parsippany. I used to tell him I'd put garbage and hypodermic needles in his room to make him feel at home ... he wasn't amused! Best regards, Alan | ||
