Jaco was not manic at all, just what we assumed was his usual amazing self. I was pretty disappointed with the Shadows and Light album and video as it sounded all coked up to me compared to the show I saw which was much gentler and more focused on Joni. Different vibe altogether. However, I've grown to really love the album and DVD since then. I also saw Jaco about 14 months before that with Weather Report in 1978. Jaco complemented me on my syncopated version of 'Sunshine Superman" He also commented on the 71 P bass that I was playing at the time at which time I handed it to him. Oh no! The dreaded pre-gig fight with girlfriend/wife. How come no one ever talks about "Don Juan's Restless Daughter"? Some of the all time great bass playing, including my favorite recorded bass note: Jaco's entrance on Cotton Avenue, which has some burning licks on it as well.
