I've finally finished building my new rig and it sounds incredible. Starting at the top I have a Mesa Titan v12 1200 watt monster. Two footswitchable channels with as much tone control as I'll ever need. Yesterday I picked up my new cabinets. A Mesa powerhouse 210 and a powerhouse 212. Both 8 ohm handling 600 watts apiece. Even at living room volumes the tone is superb all the way up the fingerboard (I've rolled the tweeter back on the 210 to eliminate any harshness in the upper register) from earthshaking lows to beautifully sweet mids and crystal clear highs. I have two wedding gigs this weekend so I won't be turning it up too high but in a few weeks I'll be playing a festival stage at a bike rally so I'll be able to really wind the thing up then. Great choice Jacko. I have the smaller walkabout 300w head and that kicks out some punch. I have to say that my controls are flat in the parametric area with a little bass ( about 1:00pm position) and the same with the treble. Everything else i get from my bass. But I will be very interested in your report back from your gig. Jazzyvee | ||

Well, I have mixed emotions from the weekends two wedding gigs. First off, the tone from this rig is nothing short of astounding. The only word I can think of to describe how the bass felt is 'SOLID'. Every note is as clear as crystal regardless of whether it's high up on the neck or down in the depths of the low B string. I have the 'clean' channel set up with mid and treble cut (about 11 o clock) and the bass flat. Having two footswitchable channels is a godsend. I have one set up really clean with a nice 'roundness' for normal rock and also the fretless tunes, and the other set up with a bit more bite on the gain and treble for Punkier numbers (yes, we get requests for Anarchy in the Uk at weddings!). The two venues couldn't have been more different, one was a working mans club, low roof with the room much wider than it was long, and the other a full size hotel ballroom. needless to say the rig filled both halls with power to spare and my guitarists said we had the best sound we've had for ages. Now the downer. The early silver faced Titan had a known problem; when running a 2 ohm speaker load the thermal cutout would occasionally shut the amp down for 10 seconds - I experienced this with my EBS/GK cab combination but wasn't too worried at the time as I knew I was changing cabs to a 4 ohm load. However, at both gigs into the 3rd set when the music gets pretty lively the amp cut out. Only once on saturday but three times on sunday - pretty embarrasing but also very annoying. Spoke to the UK distributor about it this morning and they contacted Mesa who have asked to have the amp sent to Petaluma for repair, all under warranty which is pretty impressive for a 5 year old second owner amp. All I have to do is get the thing to Glasgow some time this week. Means I'll be without the amp for at least 3 or 4 weeks but at least I still have my fender pre / QSC power set up I can use at next months gigs. Oh, sunday just wasn't my night - snapped an E string (right on the bridge saddle)on my MK just into the second set so I ended up having to play around 40 minutes on my fretless rogue - I love playing it but a lot of the tunes require definite bass notes e.g. Stuck in the middle / Brown eyed girl so I had finish the set off watching my fingers. jacko - we all have disasters, I remember one gig years ago when my peavey rig totally gave up the ghost and I ended playing thru' the PA! Petaluma, I have had a meal at Johnny Garlic's there and did some shopping in the mall, it's just before Santa Rosa. | ||

Cheers Terry. I'll be across there in September and was thinking of dropping in to Petaluma on my way up to Alembic from SF. No idea if they do factory tours but I have a few months to find out. Graeme P.s. re facebook, you're right.... I need a van :-) |
