Okay, points go to davehouck and pace! (although EVERYone's input was tremendously appreciated) Rolled the two pots back and forth >60 times.

BAM! Played for about half and hour, no problem.
Been playing since '71 and have experienced only the scratchy issues, nothing else.

Okay, we're good to go! I'll take some pics this weekend and post.

I'll close for now by stating this---while the preamp issue has been solved and, after having had my Dis for less than 24 hours, it has created another "problem"---I want another Alembic. Fact.

Lstly, I want to tell everyone what a joy and pleasure The AC is for me. What a hoot!

Michael - glad to hear that you resolved the issues and that she's playing beautifully. And you're right, the AC is a hoot - a great group of folks who share a love of a company run by people who make (in our opinion, anyway) the finest instruments in the world.

BTW, I will be in Columbus next week for my nephew's wedding. If you wish, I can bring some of my Alembics for you to try (I have a Series II, an Essence, a Stanley Clarke Signature Standard and an Epic; I've owned an Spoiler Exploiter, a Europa, a Dragon's Wing and also one of the limited edition Entwistle Spyders). We can hook up somewhere and you can give them a whirl to see what might be next on your horizon Alembic wise. Let me know.

Oh wow. Careful, Michael!!! GAS cometh in the form of Alan bearing basses!!

Go whole hog- if I were you, I'd be asking for the Series and Signature or Anniversary basses (depending on your preference of V/P or V/V).

I'm happy to see your dream realized~ owning an Alembic is one thing.... Being able to play it for more than 5 minutes is another!!!!!

That said, play her in good health!!!!

Does Columbus mean Ohio or some other state? I could also come up and bring a 4 and 5 string Rogue for people you guys.

(the voice inside my head: "What the frick have I done?????")

This whole exchange is making me literally lol! I can just see Alan, notfadeaway, me and who knows who else holding a bass summit, after which Alan will be driving home mumbling, "Wedding? WHAT wedding???"

Meanwhile, Alan, you're offer is hugely appreciated and generous beyond words! But, having finally "tasted the goodness" as an Alembic Owner, the flood gates have officially opened! So, my next one will most likely be a Series I (32").
When I began my search for my first, I posted seeking either a Dis or Series I. I was soon contacted by the owner of a nice Series in Bubinga. So, now that my Dis is here, that Series acquisition is, shall we say, starting to percolate.

I'll tell ya, people, since my terminal diagnosis back in May '05, seems all I've been focus on was staying alive. Taking the leap in Alembicdom has really got this guys low-end juices flowing again!

And that's a great thing.....

Glad to hear that everything worked out. And keep that bass and its pots healthy with at least 30 minutes (preferably a lot more) of exercise a day.
