I have my MII Tele on C-list, got this response:

Thanks for writing back, I'm okay with the condition, the price and I'm ready for the purchase. I'm willing to add an extra $30 so as to have it reserved in my favor. I would have loved to come for the inspection but due to my work frame it just won't fit in my schedule but more pictures will be deeply appreciated. Payment will be sent to you inform of Check and I wouldn't want you to be surprise to have some excess funds on the money that will be mailed to you b'cos i will need your assistant by helping me to transfer the remaining balance of funds that will be on the check to the movers so as to avoid delay and to enable movers to schedule an appropriate time for the pick-up at your location after the check is been cashed as i have other properties to be moved alongside yours. Kindly get back to me with your Full name, Mailing address (Include Apt or Unit number if available) and Phone number so as to make out the payment to you ASAP. Kind Regards

Sound shakey to anyone else? (The "sent From" & "Reply To" addies were different, BTW)
Thanks

Peter

This one's at least a little more clever than many I've seen. And while your at it...can you provide me with your address and leave the door to your place unlocked so I can just walk in and steal the merchandise.

My recent CL experience, which did eventually result in my selling the item I had up for sale to a legitimate buyer, resulted in 4 scam attempts for every 1 serious inquiry. In selling a time trial bike I got everything from, "I'm a wounded war veteran who can't come to see the bike in-person because I no longer have use of my legs" to I'm an Air Force basic training officer with 35+ years of service to our country who is buying this bike for my father as a father's day gift" (how old would that make his father?) to I've been contracted to work for on an oil rig in the North Sea for the next 3-years (must be a very big rig).

If it's priced well, you'll eventually sell it, and when you do it will be worth the hassle of ferreting out all the scam attempts.

the one I got when I put my Alembic up went something like

"I'm an Air Force engineer who is buying for my son's birthday so you will need to ship it to him" knowing this was a scarm I wanted to see how far it would last, I even sent a money request on paypal and got an email back saying "$750 has been added for customs and insurance" so in my return email I said "I thought this was going to your son in Kanasas, not over any borders? and also, the web address is @easy.com, not even @paypal.com so I'm fully aware this is a scam so i will not be transferring anything to your Western Union account, maybe if you put this much effort into finding a real job then you'd be ok" sadly I got no reply :-(

tmoney..jeeze my daughter got exactly the same
e mail last year when she was selling her car here in the UK as she works in Dubai UAE! I bet it was from a Gmail account as well. Obviously the states were changed to UK counties but as far as I can remember it is almost word for word
