Wow is right! I Remember the moment watching Walter Cronkite on CBS . I had prepared for he moment to make an audio recording of the event on my reel to reel tape recorder from our family TV set.( i was a nerd back then already !) I wanted to make a recording direct without a microphone but the TV set had no audio output other then the speaker inside of it's cabinet. As a result I connected a potentiometer / L pad to the speaker to go direct to my tape recorder line level input. ( it worked but now I would have connected it differently ) In the process I also got a BIG high voltage zap surprise on my arm from the flyback transformer in the TV set. I was only 14 years old and did not know any better but I survived ! LOL ______ | ||

I remember watching it when I was 12 years old at my grandmothers on her old monochrome TV, it was an astounding event for the whole world. He never thought himself as a hero but a guy who did his job to the best of his abilities and he did that greatly RIP Neil Armstrong. | ||

When Apollo Mission Astronaut Neil Armstrong first walked on the moon, he not only gave his famous "one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind" statement but followed it by several remarks, usual communication traffic between him, the other astronauts and Mission Control. Just before he re-entered the lander, however, he made this remark "Good luck Mr. Gorsky." Many people at NASA thought it was a casual remark concerning some rival Soviet Cosmonaut. However, upon checking, there was no Gorsky in either the Russian or American space programs. Over the years many people questioned Armstrong as to what the "Good luck Mr. Gorsky" statement meant, but Armstrong always just smiled. On July 5, 1995 in Tampa Bay FL, while answering questions following a speech, a reporter brought up the 26 year old question to Armstrong. This time he finally responded. Mr. Gorsky had finally died and so Neil Armstrong felt he could answer the question. When he was a kid, he was playing baseball with his brother in the backyard. His brother hit a fly ball, which landed under his neighbor's bedroom window. His neighbors were Mr. & Mrs. Gorsky. As he leaned down to pick up the ball, young Armstrong heard Mrs.Gorsky shouting at Mr. Gorsky. "Oral sex! You want oral sex?! You'll get oral sex when the kid next door walks on the moon!" The above is a wonderful story that has floated around for many years. Shortly after first hearing it, I met Buzz Aldrin and asked him about it. He told me it wasn't true. Did you ever notice how he paused after "That's one small step for man"? He later said that he realized he'd misspoken because he was nervous; he meant to say "...one small step for a man...." (which would have actually made sense) & briefly thought about starting over, but decided to just keep going. Make a mistake? Do it twice & call it jazz....... Nice recovery, Mr. Armstrong. I remember watching Neil's historic moon landing during school. I was in the 3rd grade. I wanted to be an astronaut after seeing him walk on the moon! Godspeed Mr. Armstrong! | ||
