I'm very, very impressed...

After picking it up last Friday I've spend many hours just enjoying the rich sounds of my beloved EVH and Orion. While the picture still shows two amps on top of each other (sorry for the X-rated image) I must admit it'll be difficult to allow my faithful Hartke 'mini-stack' any playing time after the wild weekend I've spend cheating her with my new Glockenklang 'The Passenger' 1x12" combo amp. While Hartke is/was a good 'budget' choice for my Alembics because of the neutral sound, the Glock has proved me several things:

1. Warmth doesn't require any tubes
2. Neutral comes in many different flavours, and I prefer 'natural'
3. Alembic + Glockenklang = a match made in heaven
4. I don't need another amp anymore, ever!

I know that in the USA Glockenklang is even more of a boutique (as in 'expensive') brand than it is in Europe/BeNeLux, and I'm also aware of the fact that some people just can't live without tube driven amplification, but should you ever encounter one of these wonderful devices, allow yourself the pleasure of trying it out. And after that: may the force be with you and your wallet!

I use a Glockenklang Heart Rock amp, which I bought recently, together with my series basses, an Alembic SF-2 in the effectloop, this is the best combination I have ever heard and played. Punchy, clear, natural.... you name it. Really. I didn't even notice it wasn't a tube amp until I read the manual. Exactly the sound I always wanted. I first heard it when I was on stage, didn't even try it out at the store or at home. Dialed in just a little of the SF-2 and there it was. The best bass sound in the world. Last weekend I used it with my 1977 series bass which I bought from Dale. There's one picture of that bass in the Series I section under Dales '77. I will add some more pictures later. But anyway, I couldn't believe my ears. That old "buttery" Alembic sound really came to life and was so powerfull and bright. Wilfred is right, Alembic and Glockenklang are a match made in heaven. The only negative point might be the weight. I have the Heart Rock together with the SF-2 in front of my rig and my DS-5R in the back and it weights about 65 lbs. I mounted the DS-5R in the back because I didn't have any space left but I'll keep it that way 'cause that way it prevents me from other people walking against my connector. And as you will know, a broken five pin connector is no fun at all.

I tried the Glockenlang 4x10 over here in the States at Brother Paul's (TBO) suggestion. Definitely a great sounding cab. I immediately fell in love with it...but the price over here was so high (somewhere around $1900 US if I remember correctly) that it just wasn't cost effective for me.

Enjoy your Glock/Alembic combo...I'm sure it sounds sweet.

Flaxattack,

Try contacting Uwe Salwender at Salwender International. He's the US importer, and should be able to provide price and dealer info.

I'm also a happy Quattro cab owner.

Thanks,
- nate.

I can be wrong but the UNo-deluxe is a 15" cab with a volume-adjustable tweeterhorn. I have the "simple" Uno ...and the Quattro. It is a great combination but I think the Uno (deluxe or whatever) goes best with the Duo (2 x 12" with tweeter).
