I just finished running a practice session and was playing my '82 Dis (my first and only Alembic, obtained just a few months ago.

I've owned dozens of basses over my 60 years of hanging out and, at the moment, I have eight. I constantly switch around....a Squire fretless here, my Lakland 5 there, my '77 Jazz occasionally. I don't want to lax into a mode of familiarity of muscle memory, etc. So, I try to keep myself confused (for lack of a better word).

So while playing tonight, something hit me--- In the past, had someone called or emailed and asked what I was doing, I would've answered, "Playing my bass."

But, you know what? This Alembic is the first bass I've owned that "plays me back." Or, perhaps said another way, it "plays me, too."

How wonderful!

I can relate brother! I have had a few Bass's in my decades here and there as well but the Alembics interact with me differently.

I'm going to have to go with Serial on this one. Last I heard a "set" just referred to a group or collection of things that resemble one another and belong or go together.

and of course we've all heard the refrain what a set of .....when a well endowed woman walks by.

I actually get a little turned on polishing the curves of my Elan ;o) Kind of reminds me of my other half.

Nothing quite as invigorating as heading over a grade 4 fall on a scottish river upside down in your kayak. Certainly takes my mind off sex ;-)

A track day at Donnington on my Fireblade certainly induces fear and exhileration all at the same time as well!

I find it a little strange as well. After all my years of playing and trying 30 or so different basses in the last two years, when I pick up one of my Alembics, it talks to me in a new voice. It makes me want to be a better player. I swear they whisper things in my ear. They feel like they hold stories and secrets of some sorts. Do they put liquid LSD in the finish or something? I'm joking for sure. I think I can hear them calling me from the case at times. A different breed of basses and I'm thankful I got a chance to have the experience before I'm gone.
