Okay, I'm quitting again. I have never seen anything like that on an upright bass, ever.

He is a very under rated and under appreciated bassist. Whenever I purchased Oscar Peterson records, I always looked to see that he was the bass player. What a great talent that is now in a higher place with all of the greats of the past. Long live N O-P.

Yep, Absolutely phenomenal.

Saw the Lineup of Joe Pass, Oscar Peterson, Ella, NHOP on upright and I can`t remember who else back in like `77 - `79, (I have the ticket stub somewhere at home), at the Uptown Theatre in Chicago. You don`t forget shows like that!

nhop has always been an inspiration since i picked up the bass.the only bass player i think might have more technical facility is eddie gomez (i wanted to post the recording of the bill evans trio playing Round Midnight from the record you're gonna hear from me, because i think it's the most ridiculous bass solo i've ever heard, but i can't find a link to it).... i'm sorry i never got to see nhop live....

oh well. back to practice. hey terry, what does him closing his eyes have to do with anything? nothing to look at on upright. at least that's what they always told me....

darkstar..it's looks as if he his asleep!..I mean how relaxed can you get playing that tune. I once played it like Jaco recorded it with a friend playing bongos at an open mike night..I was sweating buckets!!

Ha! He does look very non-chalant. Pretty flawless. Seriously though, I looked for that Gomez clip for like an hour. If you don't have You're Gonna Hear From Me, go get it. NHOP and Eddie FTW. At least before Eddie started playing with Chick...I can't vouch for that.

What, you mean every bassist doesn't double Joe Pass? :-) Really, that one has always amazed me; I really like this one, too. Different vibe, but just as captivating.
