OK so i was prepping for the move and an egg crate opened. How the hell did i end up with a spinners album? Did I actually buy hall and and oats live?
so i unpack the turntable- i estimated its been a good 13 years in the box- so i am all excited about putting a disc on? low and behold there is no belt! :-(
OK- I NEED SOME HELP FROM YOU TECHIES!
i could buy a belt on ebay- at this point i have no clue how to remove the table. i really dont see any pin holding it on and ive pulled on it and i wont give. the motor is working.
HERE IS MY BIG ISSUE
There is no phono input on my marantz reciever. i have aux,ld,dss, vcr etc.
Will it work going into aux or do i need some kind of "preamp"
amazon has a technics turntable for $80

am i better off just getting a new one and save the cartridge from the old one?
thanks

What type of turntable and cartridge do you have on your current turntable?

you can get belts at Needle doctor or turntable belts.com.

preamp (needed for phono to line conversion) also at above.

check vinylengine forum for instructions on platter removal. it apparently has some screws underneath.

Hope this helps.

Looking at the owners manual for the turntable it appears the platter just sits on top of the spindle. Don't know if you have it so I've sent you a copy. I could not find a free service manual.

Looking at the spec's on the cartridge I doubt it will work without a preamp. Typically you could attach ceramic cartridges to the aux as they had enough output but magnetic cartridges did not.

I'm not sure of the quality for which you are looking, but that price seems awfully steep. I don't know the quality of the rest of your system but unless its of true audiophile quality (we're talking the price of a nice new Alembic here) I've been totally satisfied with $50 preamp I got from phonopreamps.com. Now of course if you want to go with the best and your system demands it, Grado makes an amazing (and of course amazingly expensive preamp for both low and high output cartridges for $500.
