Thanks!!!

Tonight's is a bit late for those of us on the East coast, but Friday and Saturday look good. May be snowed in anyway, so hoping the power just stays on.

Tom:

Always good to see you hanging out around here. Thanks for the head's up. I've been so busy at work that, somehow, I missed that this was happening. Saw your post last night, went downstairs to my home studio, plugged the ipad into the PA, strapped on Woody and actually played along LIVE with the band! Big fun!!!! I think I'll be sitting in with them again tonight!

Hey Bill - I've been keeping an eye peeled for you in the crowd, thought you might be at Sweetwater.

I've enjoyed the workout John K is giving his custom Orion (or is it a custom Further with an Orion body?). Anyone interested in hearing the variety of tonal possibilities of an Alembic guitar should really check out these web casts -- or a recent Furthur recording.

Peace
Tom

This is great!

Beautiful close up shots of John's guitar!

The sound and video are great; and the band is playing well.

Great concert! Only problem I had was a very weird echo I got with the vocals when I tried to run it from my computer through the stereo. Ended up being thankful I recently splurged and purchased a set of really nice Westone Earbuds. No problems with the bugs running directly from the computer.

I was thinking the vocal echo was intentional; I only noticed it in a few places, where it seemed to fit. It sounded great through my stereo; especially John's guitar. Wow is that a nice guitar.

Dave:

I thought it was intentional too and listened to the first several songs that way. After 3 songs, however, I started to get a bit suspicious. Then I plugged the earbuds directly in to my computer and it mysteriously vanished. It was weird, however, that the drums, bass, keyboards, and guitar all sounded fine. There were some songs where John K was singing and at times his lips appeared to synch with the echo. But no one else in the band was singing. At other times, there was an echo to his singing (and no I wasn't on anything last night).

I was hoping to watch again tonight, but was getting "too many connections" errors on Sweetwater's site. But just now finally got on. Hope it stays up.

I've got the Ipad hooked up to the TV tonight! I agree that it was a great first set. Can't wait for the second one! I know Bobby said they would be back in a little bit....

Well that was just wonderful. And Unbroken Chain was a highlight for me, though everything seemed like a highlight, especially Broke Down Palace at the end. Oh, and John's got some right hand technique; and tone!

Thanks again for letting us know; it's been a truly enjoyable evening!

Tom mentioned further up thread about how this live feed was a great showcase for the tonal variety possible from an Alembic guitar. And it was definitely that. He had a very wide range of tones and effects that all sounded wonderful. There was one time in particular that struck me where he played a riff, then turned the filter just a bit, and then continued playing; it was the same type of change that I get when I turn my filter just a bit. And in the usual world of watching guitar players in bands, that's not something you hear often, because most other guitars can't do that unless they've been modded with a filter circuit.

And I may be wrong here, but it looked to me that he was going direct to FOH rather than micing his cab. Interestingly, it looked to me that the only cab he had was a single 12", with which he got some nice feedback when he wanted it.

The sound quality of this live feed was very good, and I was able to hear the subtleties of John's tone much better than with the usual youtube videos. I was really impressed with the quality and variety of tones he was using, and his command of them. This was indeed a great example of the possibilities that an Alembic guitar makes available.
