I had the pleasure of meeting and hanging with Doc a few times. A true "one off" in the run of human beings on this here planet. My family and friends owe a huge debt of gratitude to HST. The daughter of a good friend was wrongly convicted of felony murder (mandatory life without parole) in the death of a police officer 7 years ago. The appeal of her conviction is currently being heard by the Colorado Supreme Court. HST heard about it several years ago and has been a huge supporter since. He has done so much to get some support behind her. Before that all the publicity and support was against her. He even called in some favors from some powerful friends to come to her aid. It meant so much to her and her supporters to have her side of the story finally heard. He has been such a good friend to her and hers. They are truly devastated by his death. Thank you, HST for standing up for what you feel is right. Rich | ||

No kidding, you know Lisl? Smaller world than I thought. HST was a rotten excuse for a man who played one well in his books, and the world won't be the same without him. We need low men with grand ideas. Without them, there is little to strive for, because we aren't forced to realize we have the option. RIP KFS | ||

KFS, yes, it is Lisl that I was talking about. I worked and shared an office with Rob, her step father, for about 2 1/2 years. That was about 6 years ago. I don't go to Denver on business as often as I used to but I used to stay with them most of the time. Man, do I ever remember the day all that happened. It was all over the news. Rob came to work the next day and asked me what I thought about the police officer shooting. Then he started crying and told me that Lisl was the woman who was arrested in the incident. What an enormous, stressful ordeal the whole thing has been for everyone. I met Lisl once about 6 months before the killing. Her brother, Mason, was playing a gig. Lisl and her mother, Colleen, met me at a little club in Denver. We didn't chat much, just listened to the band. Mason is an electric bass/upright player, very good. Colleen's brother (Forrest something, I can't remember the last name)is a bassist with the Eugene, OR Symphony. He also has played bass with (I think) Mason Williams for many years. I have talked with Lisl several times when I was at their house and she called collect from prison. She seems to be doing okay, all things considered. We're all just hopeful that the CO. Supreme Court will find in favor of her. It's been 7 1/2 long years already. I talked to Rob a few days after Hunter's death. He and Colleen were shocked and deeply saddened by the news. They have talked to him and his wife many times. I can't imagine how Lisl feels. She and Hunter had grown very close over the years. He was her biggest public supporter and his concern and support are greatly appreciated. Rich |
