Since the Brothers are in the midst of their massive yearly March pilgrimmage to NYC's Beacon Theatre (been there, done that...but not this time around), I figured I'd pick up their DVD from the '03 March run. I'd caught the '03 and '04 tours (from the Joisey side), but I don't remember Gregg being that lethargic. He starts out stiff, weak and lethargic, but warms up as the night goes on (I have seen/heard better versions of "Melissa"). In March '01 at the Beacon, he was even more lethargic, but claims to have cleaned his act up in time for the "Hittin The Note" album, and subsequent tours. Based on the shows I've seen, that's a fair assessment. Regardless, the Brothers are allways a good show. Sound and vid quality are good, and you get a few extras. Not too bad of a price for two DVD's either ($30 MSRP, $23 w/free S&H @ deepdiscountdvd.com). Highly Recommended! |

The Beacon DVD is one of my favorites. Derek Trucks is a pleasure to watch and listen to in this setting! |

Warren and Oteil are no slouches either! The Beacon is a cool setting. As I get older, though, that trek from NJ to NYC seems harder and farther than ever, so now I stick to the Arts Center in Joisey (off the Parkway). I can ride in on my Hog in less than an hour, park up front, and relax in a semi-outdoor ampitheatre with a big pretzel and a Bass Ale (only one...I'm ridin', after all, LOL!). |
