One of the Dead's Bob Weir's alter-egos is the jam band RatDog. They are playing at the ubiquitous Starland Ballroom (formerly Hunka Bunka Ballroom) in lovely Sewerville, er, um Sayreville, NJ (the original home of John Buongiovi, er, um, Bon Jovi) this coming Tuesday eve. Tix are a wallet-bending $28.50 for general admission (18 to enter, 21 to drink) and the doors open @ 7:00pm. Anybody from the NY/NJ/PA/CT area interested in going? I have my first (of many to come) board meetings for my new position as a NJ State-Licensed, MSF-certified Motorcyle RiderCoach (instructor) that I must attend that night, but I'll be heading to the swampy industrial park behind Rt. 9/Ernston Rd. in order to catch Weir's act as soon as I can cut loose. I would recommend for those of you wishing to attend, that unless you love crowds, cigarette (et al) smoke, and consuming mass quantities of liquid entertainment, that you ignore the door opening time and show up at a more cosmopolitan time of say, 8:00 or 9:00-ish. They open the doors an hour early before the usual warm-up acts (someimes they have two, three or more!), so they just want you there for the max. time so you can suck-up expensive drinks all night, of which I abhorr. I must be getting old, LOL! For more info: http://www.starlandballroom.com/events/ BTW, The willing "survivors" of the wrecks of the Jefferson Airplane, Starship, Quicksilver Messenger Service, et al, will be descending upon the mighty Starland Ballroom on April 30. For a paltry $20adv/$25door or $30/$40 for "VIP" (Don't ask, LOL!) you can catch the aging hipsters known as Marty Balin, Paul Kantner, David Freiberg, Tom Constanten (Anthem/Aoxomoxoa-era Dead!!!), etc. Ck it out!!! |

Saw Bobby and Ratdog here in Vegas during the early leg of the Spring tour. He still looked a bit tired but they sounded great. Bobby was having some trouble with his Yairi feeding back so they cut the acoustic set short (too bad). The Terrapin suite was truly inspired. Well worth the HOB ticket prices. Tom |

If anyone goes to see Ratdog, Bob Weir's guitar tech is a very good friend of mine, his name is Vadim Canby. Long black hair, looks American-Indian (he is); say hello for me if you see him. Valentino |

Unfortunately, I didn't get out of my meeting until after 10:30pm (and it was a 45min. ride to either the show or home), and since I get up around 4:00am, discretion was the better part of valor. I am sorry that I missed Weir, though. It s*cks getting old, LOL! Anybody go? A good review of the show would make me feel even more guilty for missing it, LOL!
