The Level 42 "Live at Wembley" concert from (I think?) 1987 is now out on DVD (finally!). I ordered it from level42.com and it came personally autographed by Mark King! What a surprise!!

He's probably third on my list of bass heroes, behind Entwistle and McCartney.

This DVD is of the original band, in their heyday, playing their biggest hits to a packed arena. Too bad Mark was playing Jaydee basses at the time (still sounds good through his Trace Elliot rig - he was one of their first big endorsees). But he is just amazing to watch - I have no idea how he plays what he does, sings lead on every tune, and is a credible frontman/entertainer. An amazing talent.

The video I have of level 42 is their second incarnation - after the brothers gould left and Mark plays two alembics throughout the concert. His sound is quite frankly incredible, even on tape! I've always been impressed by Bassists who can sing whilst playing really complicated runs - MK, Chris Squire and geddy lee all fall into this category as would Phil Lynott who I've just been watching on a 1978 Sydney opera house DVD.
