Why do you call this the world series when it's only USA teams that play? Jazzyvee |

That's because most Americans don't understand geography. For example, we still call native Americans, Indians. |

Being ignorant and offensive is not solely an American thing, but I would like to see the Washington Redskins drop the offensive "Washington" from their name. |

I've always been surprised that "Native American" is the preferred way to refer to native peoples of the north-western hemisphere. Wasn't Amerigo Vespucci Italian? It seems just as inappropriate as "Indian" in some ways. /Go Cardinals, and Go Mizzou! A good year for Missouri. |

Yes, you're right about that, but at least in a modern context American is geographically correct, whereas Indian is a mistake that someone should have figured out a long time ago. North America clearly isn't India, not even close. Magellan was at least welcomed properly in the Philipines. Here's some Duke Ellington: http://youtu.be/of8_uw3hN-8 |

Wow -- this place has not changed a bit. -- In 2006 I posted a "Go Cardinals" as my team headed into the WORLD SERIES (because that is the name of the thing) and the comments were rude, petty and pretty ridiculous.(search that thread and read it for yourselves..Go to the primary source of info..).If a more 'valued and esteemed' member had made such a post, there would nothave been that kind of prattle...... but at least those guys then talked baseball --- I still have my Alembics. I love them. --- I used to place a great deal of importance of posting and responding in this forum. --- I posted the "World Series Bound --- Go St. Louis Cardinals" to see what kind of ridiculous statement that would be made..... and here they are... I guess I am.. and always one -- of the 'nameless rabble' whose thoughts, ideas and opinions are irrelevant.. Guys...look at some of the members who no longer join your discussion ranks..... Why do you think that is? -- Go ahead, gang up and tear me apart.... To all of you out there who were respectful to me when I would post, I thank you. --- I posted a pic of my Alembics on my profile and all most people wanted to do was ridicule the little red and white ax with the Alembic pickups installed... anyway...... I will not intrude on your private party...... "Go Cards... I'm going to enjoy sitting around playing my Series I Alembic 4 string bass; my 5-string Mark King; My 6-string Epic bass and my '78 Series I guitar (and my little Guild) as my team plays the worthy Boston Red Sox in the WORLD SERIES.... As my Dad used to tell me when I'd head out for a gig decades ago, "IF you can't play good... play loud(ly)!" ---- --- |

David, On-line communities are very slippery slopes by nature. Do not take things so personally. If I had a dime for every time I posted to a thread and then the thread 'mysteriously' went dead quite I would be in line for a Series ( or at least a Signature) bass. Your post generated a conversation that took a tact that you did not desire - que sera. There are worse things in life. The bottom line is that we all are bound by Alembics, beyond that we all have vastly different backgrounds/ hobbies/ passions. That is diversity and within it you will find that some members share a common interest/ sense of irony or humor that may not align with yours ( or mine, or his, or hers). P.s. some day the Milwaukee Brewers will be playing the World Series and I will proudly make a post about it! :-D P.s.s. their is no one here that is more "valued and esteemed" than yourself (Message edited by Pauldo on October 20, 2013) |

I think the term World Series is very appropriate. While the league consists of teams primarily located in the US, the players on the teams represent the best baseball players in the world, from all over the world. Should be a good series. I think the two best teams made it. Unfortunately I am a long suffering Seattle Mariners fan and don't have a dog in the fight. Bones |

Man! I haven't read the previous thread, but the reaction here seems a little over the top. I probably wouldn't have posted at all, except I'm American, I think my geography is decent, and my family is Native American (my great-grandmother was full-blooded, card carrying, Creek Indian - with others on both sides of my family). All of which seemed relevant given some of the other comments. Maybe I'm missing something here. Like someone said above, you can't really control where a thread ends up. Some of the comments (like my own) may be interpreted as ridiculous, but I don't see anyone trying to be mean to one another with their posts. After all, this is an international forum, and viewpoints are going to be different from time to time. Unless I've missed something, no posts have been removed from the thread either. |

so you posted a thread expecting it to elicit negative comments, and then blame everyone when it does. pretty sure that's the textbook definition of trolling. also, i want nothing more than for the cardinals to lose the world series. - signed a completely embittered pirates fan. |
