Not only was he a powerhouse singer, he was a very innovative guitarist that introduced a number of effects

My only exposure to Bobby was back in '80 when he opened for the Stones. When the night was over, I left thinking that the Stones should have opened for Bobby.

My favorite Bobby Womack song . . . .

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tNjSBkGUOTU

. . . . which I originally learned in this nitro-methane-and-Thunderbird-fueled rendition:

BW was such a great writer and performer, and then the pre-'Centerfold' JGB was a live steamroller: I never saw a band that could grab an audience by the neck as fast as they could.

That song will be getting airplay on my Jazz radio programme in memory of Bobby Womack this evening and I will be doing a feature on Horace Silver.
I'm on at 18:00 GMT.

Jazzy, I will be certainly tuning in!. As a listener and musician from the Caribbean, I feel identified with what the website says about the radio station, and as a fellow Alembician bassist, I am sure there will be room for a lot of low frequency thumpin´! And who knows, maybe one day my work could also be displayed there!. Best regards!

I have complete freedom in what I play on my radio programme and so there is a good chance your work could get on here. Usually the only things i reject are those that have no connection with Jazz, blues or world music or if the recording production quality is at a level that it will not stand up next to the other tracks on the programme. ( no point in playing something that is going to put the artiste in a bad light). I've already played some tracks by fellow forum member Pierre-Yves.

Jazzyvee,

I will try to be a regular listener now ____
That was a most enjoyable Horace Silver show!
Many of his tunes were important building blocks to my musical connection to understanding and playing Jazz ____

Horace Silver & Miles Davis are both largely responsible for sparking and starting my love of Jazz, in spirit , content and delivery.

Bobby Womack will always be a part of my musical appreciation with his grooves and spirit as well . He really knew how to capture his audience. Such a great performer ____

I agree with Jcdlc72, Across 110th Street is as close to a perfect song as I've ever heard..... It was co-written by Bobby and someone called Peace. Anyone know who Peace is, or what else he or she may have done?
