Thanks fellas. A day spent doing yard work and having my neighbor bring over grilled meat snacks! By the time we got done working, liquor store was closed - no beer! :-( No worries, I do have a bottle of small batch Booker's bourbon. :-D Happy Independence Day to all! |

Happy July 4th, everyone! We had to take a rain check on festivities here because of hurricane Arthur coming to town... |

My D-I-L & grandson were visiting her folks, so we drove 2 hours & met in the middle for breakfast (Damn that kid's adorable!!! I am one happy Granddude!) then 2 hours another way to one of SWMBO's sisters for family , drink, way too much food, everyone who didn't have staples in their back swimming, the autistic great-nephew being chill - then an hour home to lay on an ice pack until the fireworks - visible from the front porch - started. Really good show this year. All in all, not bad. And the historian in me even refrained - until now - from pointing out that a more appropriate date would be July 2, when it was ratified, or August 2, when most of the signatures were affixed - only John Hancock signed July 4, 1776, and some signed years later - or at least January 14, when the Treaty of Paris made it real. Or, as I would argue, Sept 17, anniversary of the ratification of the Constitution - or again July 2, when the Civil Rights Act of 1964 made it almost true.......... OK, OK I'll shut up - Happy 4th to my countrymen, and happy whatever holiday may be close for our brothers & sisters from elsewhere. Peter |
