I've continuously owned a 'Fillmore East', from the original pink label double LP all the way to my favorite version so far, the Tom Dowd remixed set on double CD. I'll have to have this as well.

I was always aware that they did a multi-night stand and the performances were culled for the best nights. So I suppose this is everything, should be interesting.

'Fillmore East' ruined me. After I heard it, everything changed, I'd never heard anything like it, still haven't. This is one of those terrific live records that was done at exactly the right time: Hot as a pistol, they played all of this for keeps, as if there was no tomorrow.

I had tickets for an Allmans / Dead double bill in Houston that was cancelled after Duane's passing, and it's just as well. I respected the Dead for a lot of things, but there's just no way they could have withstood either opening, or worse, having to follow the Allmans in those days. I don't know any who could have.

I only wonder what might have been . . . .

And...don't forget they were all in their early 20's.

Amazing musical maturity for their level of experience and the relatively short amount of time they'd been playing together.
