Yup...got mine on tuesday. "Truckin' Up To Buffalo" is available from the Dead's store at Dead.net. Click here: http://www.gdstore.com/ It's a Summer '89 outdoor show from upstate NY (Rich Stadium, July 4, 1989). Sound and pic quality are very good, and it was decent show. I've never been a huge Brent Mydland fan, but it's still a good show from a time when Jerry was still recovering from his late '80's diabetic coma debacle. Of note is the Modulus graphite instruments wielded by Lesh and Weir. Lesh plays a headstockless dark blue 6-str. bass (a la Steinberger) and Weir is playing a Strat-style black modulus 6-str with a MIDI-style digital readout on it (a la that Casio guitar). I wasn't in love with Weir's tone(s), but Lesh's tone was right on and his playing was sublime. Garcia was playing "Tiger" and playing well and, despite his obvious (relatively) poor physical condition, he was quite animated in his playing (Jerry never moved about much, so I was surprised to see him gyrating). His voice was strained though, but we all know Jerry was never an awesome vocalist. Having said that, his vocal performances were ALLWAYS heartfelt, and he allways found a way to draw you in, despite the clunkers and hoarseness. I also have the companion CD and tie-dye shirt, LOL! Highly recommended. BTW, how's the WOLF doing, Jeffrey? | ||

me love wolf....... he learned how to speak real fast and loud will disagree on your review of jerry though- he bops all night long- his interaction with brent visually and muscially is wonderful and his broad smiles make the dvd-clearly he was on from the first note and he was having one heck of a good time by 89 he was already past the diabetic coma and his vocals are fine on this dvd... | ||

Usually I'm a low-price shopper, but when it comes to the Dead or Garcia's empire, I usually buy direct to support the hoards of dependents of Jerry and Co. Call it my Boy-Scout good deed for this lifetime, LOL! I'm a sucker for those "pre-order" offers that the Dead and Garcia's estate send me...there's no money to be saved, but at least the heirs get maximum profit and I get the music/vid first. | ||

BTW, I saw the Dead a year after Jerry's coma (MSG NYC) and he was so lethargic and out-of-it that I never again went to see the Dead while Jerry was alive. MY bad, because I lost out. It was the first Dead show for my ex-wife and another "newbie" Deadhead couple...they thought it was great, but I knew better. I was spoiled by some pretty great late '70's/early '80's shows and was disappointed and upset about Jerry's poor health and the resulting lackluster performances he was producing during that time frame. The "Truckin Up To Buffalo" vid showcases a Jerry in much better form, especially instrumentally, but I'd seen too many shows where he was in better voice to think he was in fine form vocally. Just my personal opinion. I enjoyed the performance just the same, despite what I would call a fair-to-middlin' vocal job by Jerry. The disc is still highly recommended anyhow. | ||

Ah, even bad Dead is better than no Dead, LOL! J/K. I've been a Deadhead since age 14, and I'm showing no signs of slowing up yet after 28yrs., LOL! Good on ya, Mate! Steve Frank @ Superbass.net is the BEST! BTW, Is he taking orders yet? I know he was on a sabbatical of sorts. | ||
