How do you re-size your photos when you want to upload one on to a thread? I seem to get the message that it is always bigger than the allowed 150? kb Glynn | ||

Most computers have some kind of photo editing software on them. Most photo editing programs will do both of the following. If you don't have any editing programs on your computer, I recommend IrfanView, which is free, light, and easy to use. First, reduce the physical size of your photo as measured in pixels. (As it so happens, the moderators are currently discussing adopting a maximum width, so that we don't get the problem of very wide pictures making the text of comments unreadable. We are considering a max width of either 1024 or 800 pixels.) In IrfanView, you would go to Image and then Resize/Resample, then set the Width to 800 pixels. There should be a similar option in most editing software. If your picture is taller than it is wide, you might want to reduce the height so that it's more likely to fit on most screens. So maybe reduce the height to around 900 pixels. Next, reduce the "quality" of, or compress, the picture file. In IrfanView, you do this when you go to save your edited picture. Choose File / Save As; a window pops up where you name the file and choose where to save it, but a second little window pops up at the same time where you can reduce the quality. The default is 100; pull the slider to the left and reduce it to maybe 95. Then save the file. Right click on the file, choose properties, and see what the new file size is. If you're still above 150, try reducing the quality a little lower. You'll quickly get the hang of it. This quality or compression adjustment will be different in various programs, and perhaps found in different menu settings; but most have it. Usually, reducing the quality from 100 to 90 is not really noticeable in pictures posted to the board. I hope that helps. | ||

I use Fotosizer. It is a free download at http://www.fotosizer.com/ It has preset output sizes that you select based on the size of the original picture, so I just play with the output size until the resized picture is under 150 kb. I don't know how it does it, but the same picture resized in Photoshop will not be nearly as big when you post it as it is when using Fotosizer. The thing I like too is that you can do multiple pictures at the same time & it works really fast. Here is an example of how big the post pictures are using Fotosizer -   | ||

For Mac, I'm a fan of Graphic Converter. It used to be free, now you have to pay, but I find it so useful that I paid for it. Great pics Rusty! I don't think I could put up pictures that big - seems like somehow you have defeated the picture size limit! | ||

Harry, that's the cool thing about Fotosizer, you can take the same picture & resize it to 150kb in Photoshop & 150kb in Fotosizer & the Fotosizer picture will be twice as big when you post it. Not sure the science behind it, but it works great! | ||

Brian, I wouldn't know what to do with that many Alembics! I made the comment after the Texas Gathering that there was no shame in Alembic manogomy since I just owned the one SCSD at the time, but that lasted about a nanosecond as I have now commissioned a Europa build for my 2nd Alembic. | ||

Reminds me of last time I went under the knife (some good 10 years already), something similar happened; the surgeon happened to be a guitar apprentice and a jazz guitar lover, an so we ended trading tips on instruments, techniques and players. He even happened to have an Ibanez electric hidden under his desk, and a nice CD collection on one of the shelves!. These were the couple most strange medical consultations I´ve ever been in my life, but quite a pleasant ones! | ||

Juan, I have a good friend who is a Doctor with his own practice. One time I went to visit him at his office, he stopped everything and said Hey Pete!, come back here check this out. His whole back office was almost a complete rehearsal studio! Small world and Music transcends. There's that saying I wish I knew then what I know now. Or at least understand it better.
