I am probably going to get bashed over the proverbial head for asking these questions, but I have no where else to turn. I am trying, desperately, to re-create Jerry's Alligator Strat, that Alembic modified during the Europe 72' era. I have seen the photos on Dozin.com and that was the way the guitar started out, but wasn't finished. In those pics it had what looked to be an Alembic Series I bridge and homemade tailpiece on it. As the guitar was played in the small bit of video I could find of Europe 72' it had a tailpiece on it that looked like the bridge was a simple Gibson ( oops did I just say a curse word? )Tune-o-matic style bridge and a tailpiece that looks like some sort of gutted tremelo unit. Also at the same time Alembic changed the small piece of control plate that was broken off from a very crude brass piece to a very professional looking black metal piece, and swapped the knobs to the conventional series I knobs. Does anyone have any pics of this setup up close, I have someone capable of making it, I just need to factually see it up close. I would be forever grateful ( pun intended ) if anyone could help. Also on a side note does anyone know what happened to all the Hard Truckers cabinets the Dead had? i would love to own one as a piece of history, and of my favorite band. Thanks for listening to my rambling, let the beating commence..... |

The pics you have listed here are the early ones while the guitar was in it's prototype stage, by the time it hit the stages in Europe it had undergone some significant changes. Does anyone have the DVD " from Anthem to Beauty" from the Dead? When Jerry is playing the solo in "Truckin" the camera gets in for a close-up and you can see how different the guitar looks. I figured Alembic did the work, there should be pics of the on-going job somewhere. I will try to upload what photo's I have to help narrow it down. PS the guy selling the Alligator Replica on Ebay is the guy who is going to make me the tailpiece. Wish me luck... |

When I was searching the web this morning trying to find other Alligator pics, I did notice some other strat pictures from the same period; some of the captions indicated they were from the Europe '72 tour. Those pics showed black Hat knobs. But they did not have Alligator decals. |
