So I went to the Dear Jerry tribute show at Merriweather Post Pavilion. I had been looking forward to that show for weeks after a friend called out of the blue and surprised me with a ticket. I was most excited about seeing and hearing Phil play his Alembic.

I heard it some, but didn't see it! Being a midweek show, we could only leave so early to make the 75 minute trek to Columbia. When we got there, traffic was a zoo. We finally found parking in a neighborhood almost 2 miles from the venue. By the time we entered, Phil's show-opening set was over. I heard he played "The Wheel", "Uncle John's Band", "Liberty", and "Standing on the Moon." Sorry I missed this part of the show! Can't wait to see Phil in action when I watch the shows from Santa Clara and Chicago on my couch this summer.

Despite missing Phil, the show was excellent. Highlights for me included Jorma playing "Sugaree" and Widespread Panic doing "Morning Dew."

Bobby Weir looked and sounded great. My favorite performance from him was an intense version of "Days Between." Although that song was never one of my favorites when the Grateful Dead started playing it, the version last night had a lot of feeling. Bobby belted it out, sending the love out to Jerry!

The night ended with a sweet singalong version of "Ripple." I got to hang out with many friends that I had not seen a show with in too many years. It was great to see the community gathered together once again to pay tribute to Jerry.

Glad I have the day off today. Not enough sleep last night!
