Unfortunately, no Alembic content...at least for the time being... Just saw them on Sunday night in Tempe, AZ - apparently a surprise fill-in date on their current tour. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED - especially if you enjoy seeing and hearing REAL music played in REAL time by REAL musicians using REAL old-school analog & tube-powered gear. A full 2-1/2 hours of intricate (and largely improvised) sonic interplay that alternated between blunt & massive and complex & delicate. These guys "get it" and have picked up the trail originally blazed by the Dead and ABB and are forging ahead into new territory powered by a diverse array of influences including blues, R&B, roots, metal, psychedelia, jazz and pop. Thankfully someone is carrying on the tradition and honoring a style of performing that seemed to be in jeopardy in the wake of the final ABB shows at the Beacon and this summer's Fare Thee Well mini-tour. | ||

I've seen Govt. Mule many times. Glad to hear you enjoyed the show. I haven't seen them in quite a few years, though. Original bass player Allen Woody played Alembic basses sometimes. One of their CDs shows him playing a Series bass. Warren Haynes has definitely assumed the role of the hardest-working man in show business! | ||

my fav band hands down! I miss Farmer, worked many shows with him over the years. Did you notice the backline? Haynes uses a bass combo and a leslie with his backline. Real world stuff man! The very first Mule show I worked ..got to hang with Woody all day and drive him around town to the pawn shops. Good times  yes, Rock and Roll is alive as long a Warren Haynes is alive! | ||

Re: backline - yes, I saw and heard the Leslie powered by (I assume) an Ampeg bass amp. At least the Ampeg was sitting on top of the Leslie cab... FWIW: the amount of gear on stage was bordering on overkill, but it was a glorious spectacle for a gear hound like me. I was about 15-20 feet from the stage, right in front of Warren. I could clearly hear his stage sound, as well as the stage mix of the drums and bass. Due to my location, the keys and vocals were a bit lost, but still audible. From my vantage point, I heard little or none of the mix coming through the PA. Two things impressed me: first, the stage volume, though formidable, was not deafening and the overall blend of the instruments was very good and second, the tone of each instrument was pretty accurate to what I was expecting to hear based on what I've heard on various recordings. This is in contrast to performances by other bands that I've attended where the stage mix is poor and the instruments, guitar in particular, sound nothing like the recordings. However, further back in the room at these shows, everything sounded correct coming through the PA - go figure. Hardest working man / band in show business - ? ABSOLUTELY - Warren and the others gave everything they had for 2-1/2 hours. No "phoning it in" or sleepwalking through anything that night. | ||

the bass combo is his bass monitor, and the leslie is his keyboard/organ/leslie monitor. So no need to have those in the wedges. Yes the stage volume is perfect IMHO. Is there anybody that has a larger musical repertoire than Warren? This guy knows more tunes than anyone I've ever met with the exception of maybe Woody.I've heard him do everything from Black Sabbath to Zappa. This man can write (he made his fortune pre allman's, penned a tune for Garth Brooks) He can sing/belt it out with soul! He has tone to die for..LesPauls, etc... He can play like nobody's business and he is one of the few that carries the torch for Rock Guitar...live performance. They always make the local crew feel like family. yes, I like this organization. a few years back...he was the lead guitarist for 3 world class rock bands all at the same time...and on the same tour! The Dead The Allman Bros and Mule yes, hardest working man in the biz | ||

Saw him open for the Avett Bros. solo. Certainly a treat, the man is a brilliant all around musician. |
