You all know I don't post much... Mica is the voice you hear most often from Alembic. Besides, all of you already do so well supporting and informing each other of all things Alembic. I generally just enjoy reading all your postings.

I am making this post so all of you hear it directly from me and not from a second or third hand source.

Short story...what started as feeling run down for almost a year, but really funky this past summer, progressed to testing in September which resulted in a diagnosis of cancer in October...Endometrial (uterine) to be specific. I'm home and resting, and completely cancer free.

Longer story...Surgery was on 11-25. It was performed with a very hi-tech Da Vinci robotic assisted surgery machine at Kaiser Sacramento... how Alembic is that? I had a great surgical and anesthesiologist team.

Pathology report Grade 2 Stage 1. They got it all...no chemo required. This is the best news you can have. As my wonderful surgeon said on my first consultation for surgery, “If you had to go to the Cancer Store and pick one...this would be the one to pick.”
In the same meeting she also said “you have to leave in better shape than you came in...do no harm.” This convinced me I would be in good hands. She was good to her word.

I am requiring a lot of post op care at home. This is coming from Mica and Ron. I know you are a patient group but if we are working on current items that involve me, Mica or Ron you'll have to be more patient for the next few weeks. I don't expect to be back at the office until the new year. Though the incisions were small, it was still major abdominal surgery, and it just takes time to heal.

Finally...the reason I am having a positive result is that I did not ignore the first warning sign but acted immediately. As most of our members are men...my encouragement in general is to listen to your body and check things out if out of your norm. There are no stupid questions when it comes to your health. Specifically for the women in your lives...if they have any unusual bleeding either before or during menopause get to the doctor without delay. This is the one cancer that gives you a heads up and a chance for a positive outcome like mine.

News like that doesn't come easy and I guess I speak for all us on here that we are glad that it all went well and you are on the road to recovery.
Get well and stay well and don't rush back to work, having had a major cartharsis myself suddenly everything comes into perspective.
All the best for your recovery here from the UK.

Dear Susan ,
It is most certainly good to read that your prognosis is that of a positive report. I have to admit that I was very concerned and worried for you when I first started to read, still am . I wish for comfort and joy for you and of course your entire family during this time of healing.

Under the circumstances, this is the best Xmas/Channukah present our little community could possibly hope for this holiday season. Take as long as you need, Susan, and then take a little more. Health is more important than anything else. With all the love being sent your way, you're sure to make a complete recovery.

Scary to read, even scarier for you and your family. Bad craziness as the good Dr. Duke would say. Very glad to hear the procedure was a success, and kudos to you for listening to yourself and taking early action. All the best to you, Susan, for a speedy recovery, and to your family for enduring such a stressful time.

Susan:

Very appreciative of the fact that they caught it so soon. Also thankful that you've got a proximal support team, including your family, and health care professionals who are able to provide you with the physical supports you need, and a distal support network that can provide the social, psychological, and other things that are just as necessary.

Get well soon!

Dear Susan,

Congratulations on diagnosing, taking action, and conquering the situation. With the proper high-tech twist, of course!

Please allow yourself to lay low as long as you can - like until you're bored silly and feel you absolutely must to get back to your desk!

Big love to you and the family,

Thank you for checking in, Susan. You've been on our minds. I'm so glad everything went well and that you have at least two people there with you who are determined to take great care of you!

Everything we need out here in bass (and guitar) land can wait for your return.

Much love to the whole family from all of us!

Thoughts and prayers Susan,
Not many companies would be as forthright in these affairs especially with someone as critical to the operations as you. But Alembic runs as a family and that family spirit flows outward into making extended families. Having spoke with a few people at Alembic I know you are in good loving hands.
God Bless and Peace towards a speedy recovery.

I *really* like Keavin's comment... was thinking something along those lines last night. Having joined this clientele' only 18 months ago, it's not just somebody who built our instruments on the other end of this thread, and I've never once felt like I was just a client.

As an aside, to reiterate Ms. W.'s advice, one of my co-workers (and close friends) was diagnosed with almost exactly the same cancer this Fall. She immediately had the orthoscopic surgery, and after some time off to recover, is back on duty, completely cancer-free. Get it checked!

All in all, a very positive outcome for what could've been a much worse scenario.

Kudos to you for early detection and having the courage to confront and quickly deal with what you instinctively knew was not normal - you are very adept at listening to your body and it paid off.

Kudos to your medical support team for a very complete and careful examination, correct diagnosis, excellent treatment and thorough, caring follow through.

Kudos to your immediate family (and extended Alembic family) for love and support.

With all of that in your favor, this temporary unpleasantness will soon be a distant memory and you will emerge stronger, better and more focused - ready to guide the Alembic ship into a future filled with creativity and endless possibilities.

All of us look forward to sharing that journey with you for many years to come!

Hi to All,

Many thanks for all your good vibes...it actually does help with recovery :-)

Hardest part is doing almost nothing for someone who is used to doing a lot. Can't bend over to pick up anything and can't reach up to get a cup if on a second shelf.

No hugging for fear of bumping the belly and disturbing the 6 incisions...ouch! Grandson had a hard time with this one at first because he likes to sit on my lap and talk to me. And...of course we are a very huggy family...so Air hugs only for the moment are just fine.

Love to All-Susan

Susan, healing vibes from here too; so glad you got it diagnosed early, it makes it all so much easier... my ex had ovarian cancer which she caught early, thankfully, and she was asking me for advice since I'd been through Melanoma which was also caught early...anyway, big difference between a Hysterectomy and a chunk outta your face...Healing vibes from Vancouver and for everyone else reading GET YOUR STUFF CHECKED OUT!!! if it seems weird, maybe it is...Tony

Susan,
Godspeed on your recovery. I am glad to hear you are doing well. When I visited in October you mention a medical test the day before but did not elaborate, understandably. We had a wonderful chat that I truly enjoyed and you seemed in good spirits. I am glad to hear all is well, please rest and let Ron, Mica, Mary and the gang handle the shop for now. You are in our prayers.
