What do get if you put 300 or so Bass players in one room? A very pleasant day out, that's what. Went down to Manchester on Sunday for this event with Mike Pisanek and Ian Petch, fellow Edinburgh Alembicians. What a fantastic day we had. At least 10 performers, some with bands, all for ten pounds. What struck me most was how friendly everyone was, especially the performers. We spent ages talking with Trip Walmsley and Jan Olof Strandberg, both big Alembic users in their own countries although neither had brought an alembic to play - don't worry, we took them both to task over that!. Jan in particular turned out to be one of the nicest guys I have met and he was incredibly enthusiatic about his Alembics. We spent at least 2 hours discussing the pros and cons of alembics - mostly pros!. He likes them so much he has series electronics in the custom built bass he brought to play. Trip was also very friendly and was himself disappointed that he hadn't been able to bring his 8 string rogue (I think he spent alot of the afternoon drowning his sorrows). All in all, an excellent day - everyone left their egos behind (wonder if guitarists are the same). Hopefully MPISANEK will post some pics. graeme |

Gutted that I missed this, given that the centre of Manchester is a half hour drive from me. If I'd been reading this forum before I bought my Alembic I would have heard about it ... Where was it held? Will there be another next year? |
