After receiving advice from you all a while back on what to do about pickup replacement on my fretless bass, I followed Joey's advice and just had EMGs instaflled with a BTS circuit. Have to say, I'm delighted. Just what the bass needed. Thanks all for your input. One of the many things that make this my favourite forum. R. | ||

Richard, so glad they worked out for you. EMG's somehow get sort of short-changed (probably as they're so ubiquitous), but they really are plug & play, quiet as a tomb usually, and the voicing they settle on seems to hit the spot. P/J is my favorite pickup combination for Fender-ish tones, and the EMG set is a really good benchmark for comparison. I just could never get into Barts as they just have too many versions of the regular shapes to ever figure out if I were about to buy the 'right' ones, and. . . . . don't EVEN think about calling them and asking questions. I have had several guitars (6 string) with EMGs, including a Modulus Black knife and a 62RI MIJ strat, and they all sound great with them. | ||

They are super-quiet, a huge improvement over what was in the bass before. I had them installed at Ring Music here in Toronto and they had some difficulty getting them to fit, but that is a function of the bass, not the pickups of course - they are standard size, the bass was a bit off. Anyway, I can now comfortably cover the spectrum of whatever is needed on any given gig. I have, as they say, all the basses covered. Again, thanks for your assistance! |
