i couldnt help myself. just purchased off ebay 1967ish gibson eb-2d. i think this predates the guild version. short scale, this sucker is has an unbelievable bottom end. they stopped making these in 68. bass bosst,p/u switch, vol and tone controls has some weather cracking and like many gibson, a neck repair up near the nut. its not mint- but was a third of the price i saw for a mint bass. thats it for my collecting.... happy chanukah to me |

The Starfire dates to '64 or '65, I think. I had a '67 that was great. Is that an EB-2D? Happy Chanukah, and beautiful bass, to you. |

Nice. I love the sound of the Danelectro lipstick pickups. If I ever get around to it, I'd like to pick up an old Strat and drop in some lipstick pups. Tom |

If it makes you feel any better, FedEx Gound roughed-up my new Series I pretty d*mn good!...one latch on the case was broken, the neck pick-up was nearly dislodged and the finish on the neck near the headstock was marred by the bouncing! |

Shpping is so hit or miss. When I got my first '67 Starfire it was shipped from Rutgers NJ, to Boston MA in a box with crushed newspaper and no case of any kind! Praise Jah, it was fine. I was a little miffed, but it was only $350. My first bass was a Gibson EB2D and I wish I still had it. Sunburst with a Badass and Barts. Edwin |

I've been told that FedEx is either not insuring guitars over $500 in value and/or not shipping them period...don't know if that is true or not. Considering how roughly they tend to handle stuff, it does make sense if it's true. My Series could have easily been turned to firewood if it had been handled any rougher! |

I am blessed with living just a 3 hour drive from Alembic, but I'm thinking that a multi-K$$ bass could surely benefit from a $400 plane ride for personal pick-up, and you'd get to thank the builders in person! Larry |

Knock on exotic hardwood, Ive yet to have a shipping nightmare.... Congrats on the new additions Jeff!!! I retired my EBO a couple of years ago, and my JerryJones longhorn VI is destined for Ebay shortly, along with some Guild & Ibanez stuff, in hopes that there'll be another workorder w/ my name on it in Santa Rosa soon... |

What I don't get is why did we cut costs on shipping??? It has to be the busiest time of the year for the shipping industry, and the instruments will be moved by how many unknown cats?, in what time frame?, and don't forget that drastic temp change sitting in the truck over the weekend. Go pick it up yerself, or at least overnight it sooo the number of handlers is cut down. Hope I'm not sounding critical, but things to consider next time. FWIW. Better luck. |

JUST GOES TO show... my danelectrci hodad arrived ups today..... not a dent a nick or a ding on the box and without a doubt the best packing job i have seen the bass was wrapped in a lot bubble wrap... there were 2, 1 inch thick slabs of styrofoam running the length of the box and the bass was sandwiched between and surrounded by peanuts.... thats how stuff dont get busted |

well this must be my lucky day my thanks to ctjim! there were/are several gibson eb-2d;s on ebay each with its own + and -'s ctjim found one at guitar rez and emailed me. since guitar rez is an alembic dealer, and alembic said nice things about them,, and jim from there returned my call in 5 minutes- i am probably gonna pay more for this one and buy it from them. at the least- they know how to pack- its in better cosmetic shape and they went over every electronic and cleaned adjusted etc. i think for the extra bucks i am in better hands.

The guys at Guitar Resurrecion are great people. My wife and I stopped off there when we were in Austin in July for the Willie Nelson/NORML benefit golf tournament. I had a fine time playing the several Alembic guitars they had. They also had some excellent things to say about Susan's rum cake. Enjoy the new bass(es) Jeff. You still have a ways to go to catch up! I may in in NY later this month. I'll let you know. Bill, tgo |

i have GAS kev- gear acquisition syndrome... there is even an alembic series 1 setting on the variax,,, yes - god has been belly belly good to me this year.... my gibson was never delivered friday and i could not rescue it from the ups warehouse today... so its a sittin and a chillin phil was good- the hall was hot temp wise and it made me a bit tired... the 2 things that impressed me the most- was the best chris i have heard so far and as much as i like jimmy herring- larry campbell is the bomb.... and schless does not get enough credit exc pride and china- a little too much jammin in the second set for me- but as i said to bill- i think i will like the show on cd- which is on btree |

minore sting by ups bass sat in truck for 4 days in some very cold weather neck moved- but i can say that guitar res in texas packed that bass like it was gold...... coorugated honeycob box and cushioning inside the case to protect the bass from "bumps" getting a set up. dave was real good over the phone. man this gibson booms,,,, a great bass for the other one..... throw on some ti's. reset the neck and intonation and this baby;s a keeper and the finish for a 40yrold bass is pretty damn good |

ya know kev.... i have a guy in woodbury new york that used to do my set ups...since i dont have anyone i know up here? i called them. i have an appointment friday to bring it in and they will do it for me. i must confess though, i forgot this aint an alembic and i changed the strings before checking and may have added to the issue. i had a brain fart....the owner is a bass player and i also had promised to bring the wolf to meet him..so i wll take a long drive... not so bad. but again- i really had a pleasant experience with guitar res as they said if there are any remaining issues they will work with me, the variax is due today and the guild starfire is due tmrw.... and showing some measure of restraint! i passed on a parker 5 string fly bass on ebay. |

Stu Hamm's old 80's X-Factor (Kubicki?) is still for sale here in the want-add section. Think "Satch Boogie"! You think his playing will rub-off if someone picks-up his axe? LOL! |

Jeff; Stuart Hamm is fairly well known among bass players, primarily for his work with Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, and GHS (with Frank Gambale and Steve Smith). |

Flax: So, you don't know from ham? Seems appropriate. Now if there was a bass player named Joe Gefilte, (who of course would have to play with "Phish"), you no doubt would be an expert! LOL. Happy Channukah! Bill, tgo |
