John Lennon was a major influence of mine. It is always the day after his assassination for it's a day I can recall, all 24 hours. I remember exactly what I did. I don't remember every hour of December 8th. Years later I discovered he played the bass on the Helter Skelter track. That aggressive and eerie bass, with zoops and scrapes and low frequency bombs. So it's years later that I discovered John Lennon was not only a music influence of mine, but a bass playing influence as well. I miss him not being in this world anymore |

Amen! Much to be missed. Makes me sad we'll never see (or hear) what else he had to offer. |

Twenty-five years ago. The world certainly changed that day. |

I liked John but was not really a fan. I surely was shocked by the news but well ...how could I say this ...do YOU know what you where doing the moment you received the news??? Funny ...I was doing this walk with a girlfriend of mine yesterday. She is a veru high sensitive person and she asked me suddenly: "do you know what you were doing when you received the news that John Lennon died?". I answered I didn't. She said: "I do ...I was in San Fransisco laying on my bed and watching TV 'Hill STreet Blues' was on. Suddenly a text passed through the image with the words 'John Lennon killed ....'etc. I really was shocked. For me it was the moment that the world and the people on it lost their innocence. And in a strange way I Lost my innocence too". Just a thought Paul TBO |

I was jamming with friends when the phone rang from a friend of ours in NY with the news. It was devastating. The only situation I have experienced that affected me and the world around me, as I perceived it, in a similar way was when JFK was assassinated in 1963. Though only 8, I can still remember every detail. Thursday night, at rehearsal, we started with "One After 909" in memory of John. Bill, tgo |

I was 13yo when my uncle discovered all his Beatles and Who records to me, and I went for BEATLES... that was in 1977, I beame a die-hard Beatles fanatic for some years, and I do exactly memorize the day John was killed: my father woke me up in the morning saying "glad to hear that finally someone erased this long-haired idiot", he went to work, and I stayed in bed the whole day, sick, crying, unable to go to school, unable to move anyway, it was pure horror... I lost some kind of innocence that day also, I felt empty still a few days after. I did not like John that much, Paul really caught me and got me to music and playing bass, but John was an amazing person, very impressive and strong on the outside. Christian |

I was a Paul fan when they first came out. Of course I was 8 years old. He really was the first reason I started playing. My parents had a baritone ukelele that I strung backwards. I taught myself a few cords left-handed, even though I'm a righty. When I got older my allegiances switched to John. I remember watching the famous Ed Sullivan performances and my father predicting that in 6 months no one will remember them. That was not my dad's finest moment. LOL. At least I never heard him comment that killing anyone was good. Bill, tgo |

I thought it was a huge waste. The fact that the sick bastard who shot him is named Chapman didn't do me any good either. I didn't realize until this year the coincidence of Dimbag Darrell being shot on Dec 8 also. Sam |

Paul taught me how to play bass AND sing. But, recently, I've been playing guitar in a duo with a woman singer. Now I'm singing all of John's lines and it's "just like starting over." (Message edited by gbarchus on December 13, 2005) |

I know exactly what I was doing on both JFK and JL's assasination days...being born and being a senior in highschool and in homeroom, respectively. |

It's hard to forget events like these: JFK..I was in 7th grade on lunch when they announced it to the school. Lennon, I was watching the news and getting ready to get up and go to bed when they first announced it. Then stayed up most of the nite watching the stories. Although with the Beatles, I wasnt the biggest John fan. But afterwards, and gaining some age myself, I came to appreciate his work, words, and music. G |
