Oooh, that's nasty. I guess that it's not by accident that this is the only club that I'm a member of. Keep waiving the flag keavin.

I don't know, it seems like the site is about trading recordings, not selling instruments. I would guess that site is populated by Flecktones fans rather than musicians.

Along these lines, I wonder if there should be a list of places that can help with the buying/selling of an instrument? Well, there *should* be list, the question is whether we should have one posted here to help people who are looking to buy/sell?

You know, someone that's been around, played and heard lots of different axes, knows his technology, I don't mind if ALEMBIC is not their cup of tea. They just aren't for everybody, no instrument is.

But hearing this same old 'this is the ONLY (fill-in-the-blank) to use' is what drove me to begin with.

First, I didn't want to listen to that crap, especially from people who, judging by their tone, technique, and equipment, obviously didn't have the faintest idea about what it took to make informed choices to further their art. When I was new at this, I took their advice. Of course they were wrong. Took me forever to educate myself (STILL working at that) so I would KNOW why and how to get what I wanted.

Second, I think it it always somehow touches an insecure nerve when they hear the words come out of their mouth, then hear the sound come out of my rig! This is the 'I'm gonna buy a rig JUST like (__________) and I'll sound just like him!'.
NEVER works completely, though I admit you would come a lot closer to SC with a BrownBass instead of a Fodera or anything else without ALEMBIC pickups.

Victor is happy with his Foderas. Great. At least we don't have a 'knock Fodera' thread here, nor would we. Grow up.

I want a Wall of Sound. Then, of course I'll sound just like Jerry and Bobby. Right.

I just saw Victor Saturday night at a small venue dead center at the foot of the stage directly in line with his Ampeg rig only about 20 feet away, so I was hearing his sound directly from his amp and not the P.A. Great player, great show, and the tone of the Fodera was very good but what I would call very mainstream. Very dry and growly. Didn't knock me out though. I t was the kind of tone you've heard on a million records. Should have stuck with his old Alembic!

It probably shouldn't have been said once, so why say it again?

Exactly! Victor is certainly a fabulous player, but he sounds just like his EMGs. I like EMGs OK, but it always reminds me of what Mica once said: There's lots of nice custom basses, but since they all use EMGs or Barts, how different can they be tonewise?

I just wonder what his PJ basses would sound like if one were hijacked and sent to surgery for Activator installation?
