When I bought my used F1-X there were some issues. This was about a year ago. I immeditely loved the sound with "Flame Koa" but had some problems. When I turned it on with the power amp on it made weird scratching/huming noises until it warmed up and even after it warmed up the gain level went up and down randomly. However, I have solved these issues and I suspect that other Alembicians will want some suggestions on how to eliminate these problems. There are 3 plugs that are potential problems- both input jacks (1/4) and the output jack for the effect loop. They are a switching type jack and can cause noise/ hum if there is corrosion in the contacts. The way to fix this is to use an appropriate contact cleaner and a small brush. The other issue is cold solder joints in the unit (Dave Houck,I can teach you how to fix this). So I resoldered all of them. The other issue can be the tube. Clean the tube sockets with cleaner like I said before. Take the tube to a checker and make sure it's good. Also check to make sure that ALL of the plugs and switches are tight in the chassis- tighten up the mounts. I'm sure you guys already know this but somebody might benefit from this diatribe- by the way my F1-X works great now! Michael (Flame Koa Essence) |

The other thing to mention is exercizing controls. Since they are sealed the only way to clean them is by turning the knobs multiple times. Michael |
