Interesting, but be sure to read the fine print (or look at the code if you read that sort of stuff). It really only understands the specific types of D'Addario strings that are listed, and they seem to be for guitar rather than bass. The XS does have values going down to a .070, and NW down to .080, but the rest stop in the 50s or earlier, so don't bother trying to use this for bass. Unfortunately, the link to the article upon which this is based appears to be busted. I think it may be the same one I was looking at a couple years ago, but either way I can dig something out if anyone is seriously interested. The math is pretty simple, the tricky part is getting the information about the string design - though as long as you can get published tension for a particular string, pitch, and scale length, you can work it out from there (for that particular string...). |
