first, what is a good power amp? i plan on getting a F1-X and from what i have looked at,either a QSC or a carvin power amp.
second, what is good type of solder? i've been using a rosin core solder and,to put it bluntly, it sucks ass.
thanks,max

There have been a number of past threads on power amps. From what I recall two of the most popular brands amoung the members of the forum are Crown and QSC. There are others, but those are the two that come to mind at the moment. You might want to run some searches on Crown and QSC and read some of the past threads.

Sorry, I don't know anything about solder.

I'm using a QSC PLX2402 - it's very clean and hugely powerful. As it's the only power amp I've used, I can't comment on other makes but I can recommend it.

Another QSC endorsement! I've been using a QSC PLX1602 for the past year and it's been a very welcome addition, 500 w/ch @ 4ohms and only 21 lbs. All of the PLX models are the same weight, so pick your power/price level. I had a RMX 1450 previously that was fine sounding but just too heavy (~42lbs) for these tired old arms.

My $0.02 as well: QSC PLX-series. I bought the TOL, but they're all the same size. There's a new model out (PLX-II) with improved cosmetics, but I haven't heard one yet. I have no doubts it'll be clean, powerful and reliable (and made in the USA).

QSC PLX3002 here. With the new PLX II line out you might be able to work a closeout deal on the PLX series.

QSC PLX 3402 in my rack. I love it. You can't beat it for it's light weight. It also has plenty of power.

QSC PLX 2402, here. You can do almost anything with it, it's clean, it's seriously light (for all that power). I don't have much to compare with, as it's the only power amp I've owned (may be the only one I ever own?).

I notice once again on this thread that the QSC users are all very fast to endorse. Crown is usually second or sometimes neck and neck. I believe there are other quality power amps around, based on the many other comments folks make here and elsewhere. Maybe it's that QSC and Crown are in use by more folks?
