Sorry Paul, not yours;-) Saw Bonnie Raitt in Glasgow last night and boy! was she good. Same band as on the latest album. Hutch was as ever, note perfect although a little quiet in the mix. She played alot of the new album mixed with most of her better known work and finished the set with Angel from Montgomery which is Mrs Js' favourite 'country' song. Sadly mr & mrs Mickeyp couldn't join us as Mike had a short notice gig to play so we took my 2 daughters instead. Hopefully they'll grow up to appreciate the experience (at the moment they're more green day and kaiser chiefs). Couldn't really make out what backline was in use apart from Hutchs' Ampeg cabs and george marinellis vox ac30. Bonnie had something that had a big lit up logo starting with a 'B'. Ever the activist, she dedicated the concert to the (still) victims of Catrina down in New Orleans and promised that when she comes back, there'll be a new president. All in all, a fantastic night - her voice is still excellent and she's still stunningly beautiful. No wonder Paul calls his bass Bonnie;-) Graeme |

Well ...you guessed it. I saw her on a concert back in the early seventies on an open air festival "Mallemunt" in Brussels. It was the period with her version of the Del Shannon hit "Runaway". I melted standing in the crowd. SO ...Bonnie is the name of my Alembic. Irony: she played Antwerp too a week ago. Alas ...I promised my sun to visit him in Denmark so ...I couldn't make it to the concert anyway. Maybe my mantra can help me out of this .... Paul TBO |

Bonnie is great. Luckily, she appears around here often. I've been a fan since the 70's when she played with Freebo. At the "Road Tested" shows she filmed at the Paramount in Oakland, I noticed her use of vornado type fans at the base of her mike stand. I thought this was a fabulous idea, and now I always gig with a small vornado fan. It's great under hot lights or outdoors in the summer. Most recently we've seen her show up and sing with John Prine at the Fillmore, and at a benefit in a restautant in Berkeley for Wavy Gravy's Camp Winnarainbow where Jackson Browne played a solo acoustic set (like his recent album) for 1.5 hours and Bonnie sat in on a few tunes. I was wearing an Alembic shirt at the restaurant and, as a result, met Scott Law (Jan. 2006 COTM "Owl") who was also at the benefit. Bill, tgo |

So, she's saying that she won't be back to Glasgow before Jan 20, 2009? Does she not tour much? Brad |

Maybe it's interesting for you, Paul, I guess you already knew... Bonnie wil be performing here in Groningen at the 30th of april. I don't know if I will go, I guess not, for a student like myself the entrance fee of €31,- is just a bit too much. But then again, maybe, I'll be there.. |
