Hi guys, just wondering if I am the only SHP owner out there. It seems everyone who owns the WW heads own either the high power (green light) or the Ultra (blue light), so I was wondering if you have the super, then what cab do you use and do ya love it or what??? Albert |

Al, I don't own one, but always wondered: How the hell do you buy one? I always have this cloak & dagger image of late nights in alleys, etc. J o e y |

Searching the web, I came across this link that contains a supposed phone number for Walter Woods. I'd try calling him first before making any meetings in alleys to get one. Might be more expensive, but a bit safer. http://www.erikfriedlander.com/livesound.htm |

I bought mine used through an online sight (hmmmbay). I did have to call Walter and people at another sight gave me his number. You are right in that there is some covert operation going on. It seems no one will publish his number but they are always happy to email it to you. I have it if you want it. So, Walter does not have a web site and the last time I saw any advertising from him was on the back of a Rufus Reid Book from the early 80's!!! No, web site, no advertising!!! Only word of mouth. He makes all his amps by hand and there is a waiting list (or that is the rumour). I had to try many times to get him to call me back (had to leave voice messages), but when I did get through to him, he was very helpful and friendly and gave me the time of day even though my amp is second hand! His amps are expensive, but you get an incrdible amp in a very small package- I carry mine in my backpack along with other gear. I do think they are over-hyped by those that own them, but I feel that way about owners of EVERY high end manufacture from Alembic to Zon! I would love to A-B the following 4 set ups which I consider (IMO) the best, albeit all expensive options: 1) Walter Woods into a Berg cab or whatever 2) Bergantino IP series combo (any one will do) 3) Sadowsky SA200 into a Sadowsky cab or Berg cab 4) Alembic F1X into a Crest or QSC amp into a berg or whatever cab!!!! |

I forgot to mention, I would be reluctant to purchase a $2000+ amp without trying one out first. Al |

I've owned a two-channel MI-100-8 for the last six months or so, and just recently started running it in stereo. It must be heard to be believed. Just incredible with the S2, and loud? I like small stuff that doesn't break, ever, and sounds amazing, and my Woods is at least equal to my Alembic in that respect. Walter's been great to speak with both times I've (finally) got him on the phone; very informative and passionate about his amps, and actually refused to sell me a new one before filling me in on how best to use the one I have now! Dismiss this as hype if you will, but I've bought and sold a _lot_ of stuff and this amp isn't going anywhere because it delivers as well as my Alembic bass does, and actually weighs less! |
