Assuming it was from a private seller, about how much would I pay for a Guild Starfire bass? Just curious. Thanks guys (and gals).

Jummy:

The 2006 Vintage Guitar Price Guide lists Starfire basses in excellent condition as ranging from $1200-$1500. The Blue Book lists Starfire I (one pickup) as ranging from $600 in good/60% condition up to $1300 for near mint 98%; Starfire II as
$750/60% to $1500/98% for 1964-1969, and $650/60%-$1350/98% for 1970-1977. The current Starfire II ranges from $650/60% to $1550/98% to $1850/100% mint.

Bill, tgo

All over the place. There is no one"Starfire"

The desirable ones are the late 60s with the Hagstrom bi-sonic pickup. The later ones from the 70s do not have the same cachet. The reissues from the 90s are very good, but the pickup sucks. I've had 2 of these reissues; the second fitted with Fred Hammon Dark Star pickups, which bring it to life (the Dark Stars are clones of the Hagstroms).
Owners do the same to the deArmond Korean version.
I sold a 67 Starfire 1 (single Hagstrom), with to-the-wood wear spots on the front and belt buckle rash on the back (but no functional issues at all) for 1300 in March.

The sunbursts command more - a late 60s sunbusrt Starfire 2, with "just a few nicks & dings" went for $1895 on ebay in Jan. I thought that was high, but have regretted not snagging it ever since.

IMHO,if you're going for one of these, either get a 60s with hagstroms, or a 90s reissue with Dark Stars.
