one of the guys I jam with used a ton of effects, at least 7-8 different pedals... I dont know what exactly he is doing, but when starts using them during tunes, it causes his guitar to drop a half step...it drives me crazy, and makes everything sound pretty crappy.. Ive mentioned it to him, but I dont think he believes me.... anyone else have this problem. | ||

Gregory, I don't have this problem but I have an idea for you. Does it happen only on fast parts or does it happen on long, sustained notes? If it is on long notes, try running it through a tuner after it goes through all the pedals. Maybe something objective like a tuner box would convince him. Rich | ||

ive noticed it happening when he turns on a particular pedal....so as long as that pedal is on whatver he is plaing is out of tune. | ||

If he cant hear it himself, I'd say it's time for a new guitar player.... Are you sure it's just not a result of some reflection in your practice space? There are usually several internal trim pots in Flangers & Chorus pedals~ some of these affect pitch. | ||

I bet he's got one of those "blame shifters", makes every thing sound like you're out of tune or tempo. Tell him to get a "suck-limiter' and all will be well.  Mike | ||

It could be a Harmonizer. If those things aren't set correctly, out of tune he would be! That should be a noticeable thing, unless he's purposly going for a jazzy avant garde atonal improvisation type of thing. I seem to remember a band a long time ago that did those sort of thing live, the something Dead (hee hee) but the full name escapes me. Mike!!! Howareya man?? I am playing in a trio plus a vocalist these days and I use more pedals than the guitar player. Albeit there's only one real "effect", but it's an interesting layout. Some players don't hear it particularly well while they're playing, especially if there's enough effect there to muddy things up a bit. See if you can get a recording that proves your point and then play it back for everybody. Nothing like peer pressure to induce a change in a situation like this. If everyone comments on the strange notes, then maybe the guitarist will look into it. |
