I'm going to be in the market for a new rig soon (amp & cabs). I was hoping I could get some recommendations from fellow club members on an amp & cabinets. I had an 80's SVT. It weighed a ton, tubes always need replacing, and I wasn't nuts about the sound, an SVT is out of the question for me.

I'm in to fusion, funk, & some jazz. I like a clean punchy, sound that will cut through the mix regardless of the variation in sounds I use. I'm thinking a bare minimum of 350 watts for club dates. Something I can build on to if the venues get larger would be nice also. Gear that doesn't weigh a ton and is easy to move is also a consideration. I currently have a superfilter and an F-1X and an ART night bass pre-amp, and my series I's. For now I'm running mono, I hope to change that down the road when I have more coin to drop on gear.

I have been leaning towards an Epifani UL series cab. For an amp I was thinking about either an EBO or an Epifani. I have heard nothing but good things about both EBO and Epifani. Unfortunately there are no dealers for either brand here in town so previewing them is not an option for me. Has any one heard anything negative, or have and comments on either brand? Or any recommendations on other gear?

Take care and have fun
Brian

This current thread: What Amps Do You Use? under Alembic Basses and Guitars may help.

I've just upgraded my amp from a mesa boogie to a rig thats quite popular here with alembic users.
F-1X, SF2 and QSX PLX power amp.
I got the amp yesterday after trying out a few in the local music store. My remit is pretty much the same as yours fusion, funk and a bit of Jazz.
It sounded great in the shop with their reasonable bass cabs.
I'd do a search on it and see what the opinion is. Thats what I did and decided on that move.
As for cabs, I'm really happy with the sound I get from my mesa boogies, although I havent tried the amp with my mesa's yet.
Thats for later this evening when I get home.
