Anyone have any info on good rack mounted tuners.I;am about to go buy one and would like to invest in a good one. if you go buy price alone the peterson suff looks good,any help from users would be great. thanks doug | ||

Hi Douglas, I have been using a Korg DT1 Pro rackmount digital tuner for more than 15 years now. So I can easily say they are very accurate and road ready :-) I have no experience with the newer Korg models DTR1000 en DTR2000, perhaps someone else has ? So, 1 vote for Korg ! I personally use a Furman power conditioner with a built in tuner. It is 2 devices in one single rack space. It works well. Michael | ||

Hi Michael, can you give me some info on the "Furman"? I was looking around here for a power conditioner and found cheap an AmericanAudio, good, rack-mountable with two light is front to clear the rack. About 70 € (± = $). I have a Tuner (an old one) but the rack in construction is getting SO FULL. The combination you propose will give me some room. I guess the Furman is rather expensive? Second: are you from the DR5R go to the Furman tuner and than to the pre-amp (f.e. a F1-X) or are you keeping the tuner out of this chain? Thanks for help! Paul, Jan may be right about them not making these any more, I didn't see it on the Furman site either. Paul - I got mine from Guitar Center in New Orleans a couple or three years ago. I go from the DS5-R to the tuner and then to the preamp/mains. This way i can tune discreetly by pressing the mute button and no one can hear the tuning. Quite nice. I highly recommend this tuner. Works great even with a low B tuning. | ||

Gang! I HATE THIS! FURMAN just cinfirmed me that the product you all talking about is "not continued". I think it was even not available in Europe. Info?? Jan?? So Matt, I went to the site you showed but unfortunately it's not an "E" (European power). I'm an electronical neanderthaler so I really don't have the faintest clue if there are changements to make to change the model. I'm stuck! Paul, I know that we (in Europe) must be sure to order the E versions of the Furman products. For instance the 220V PL-PLUS-E instead of the 120V PL-PLUS. If you order any Furman device in Europe, you won't be able to order anything else than a E version. I don't know if those Power Conditioners with integrated tuners were ever distributed in Europe. I never saw one. On the otherhand, I also considered that integrated piece instead of the 2 units I have now. Afterwards, I am glad that I chose the Korg unit. I think it's far more accurate, and the display is more detailled. I can understand that you want to save space in your rack. What you also might consider is to mount some 19" stuff like a powerconditonner in the back of your rack. That is still an option I have if it becomes to crowded in the front. PS: http://www.musicstorekoeln.de/ have some real sharp prices if you contact them online. That's the place where I ordered already a lot of amp and rack gear. They also sell Furman stuff. JAN! HOE IST? Thanks for the info Jan! Think with me my friend. My (future) rack that I'm slowly building up now will have: a DS5-R, a F1-x. a SF-2, a QSC 1602 (2 units), that leaves me space for 1 unit in the practical 6 unit rackmount. Wouldn't it be great to have the Powerconditioner (with the lights) and a tuner in one? I need those lights in front because my eyes are going badly (true) and in the bad-bar-lighting circumstances (we do most that kind of stuff) it already happened that I was unable to see my settings properly. I have the KORG D1 Pro (an old one) and he works good. Apart from the fact that you can only plug an instrument in from the front. The set-up Michael discribes by patching the signal through doesn't work anymore and because I'm an electronical-neanderthaler ...well ....you know! Thanks Jan. Paul | ||

Douglas, The store I worked at until a few months ago, carries Peterson Strobe tuners; I sold a few of them, and fooled around a bit with one, but I would not consider myself an expert. Having said that, I did like what I saw when I tried one, and one of my more experienced co-workers, Rik Elswit ( a former Dr. Hook & The Medicine Show bandmember, a guitar salesman extraordinaire for the last 14 years or so) swears by them. As you know, they do cost a lot of money, but their reputation is amazing & you can tune anything with them. Personally, as Jan & Michael indicated earlier, I would probably choose either the older Korg DT models( DT1, DT2) or their newer incarnations the DTRs (DTR1000, DTR2000); those are excellent tuners that are great for stage work as well, because of their easily visible display; they also cost much less than the Peterson tuners, which might be a bit of an overkill if all you want to tune is a bass guitar. Also , if you can find one used, you might like what i have which is a Boss TU50 chromatic tuner (now discontinued), a half rack unit with a good display that shows tuning from +/- 50% down to +/- 2%. Jan, could work. I've never seen an Alembic DS5-R actually, I dunno if they are deep or not. The only inconvenient will be that you enter the rack with your guitar on the back of the rack. Another possibility is going further with the small Boss-tuner I always keep with my guitar. Than I'll put the Korg DT1 Pro for sale together with the Lexicon MPX 100 CU Paul | ||

Paul, I just looked something up, Furman did make the European version of their "PL tuner" ! check http://www.google.be/search?q=%22Pl-Tuner+E%22&hl=nl&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8 So, if you have the time to follow-up the European Ebay-sites on a regular basis, you might be lucky finding one. happy hunting ;-) Jan | ||

And another thing, I should think twice selling that old Korg tuner. It is not the first time I hear people say that these tuners are(were) very good. I also had a problem once with the rear connectors that is now fixed. I found a guy in Tielt (Belgium) who repaired my Korg tuner. Thanks agin for all your input i went and did it i just bought a Peterson R590 Auto strobe tuner. It was a lot of money but i have tihs crazy idea to open a music store one day and i think this will be a great tool to have in the shop.The last thing i need to do is to get the credit card bill past "senior management" Doug | ||
